Vanilla vs WOD

Ran across this and thought I would share, ahhh the memories.
aww memories. I spent half of vanilla walking to the next zone or getting lost and killed while walking to the next zone or dungeon. Don't forget quest items didn't sparkle or show up on the map, you actually had to read the quest or look it up on Thottbot.
I miss leveling up as gameplay...
Those were the good days. Cool video, highlights some great points there.
Vanilla was terrible, if bc hadn't been a drastic improvement the game would have died.
Fond memories of Hogger or Princess wiping parties of lvl 12 and under newbies:)

The questing was so difficult at times, even reading about them on thotbot, still coud not help you find things you needed even though you were standing right on top of it !
Honestly, the only reason why Vanilla was considered "great" was because it was a brand new game thatset the bar for every MMO in the next ten years to come out.

Vanilla was this game nobody had ever experienced before, so naturally it's going to be insanely fun.

Let's be completely honest here. If Vanilla came out this year as a "new" MMO, it would fail horribly. Fact is, it just took too long to do anything. If I was told on my warlock i had to spam drain soul for an hour on mobs to collect soul shards I would just instantly quit, nobody has time to do that crap anymore in 2016.

A lot of people like to think for some reason Vanilla was the pinnacle of WoW. Wrath was by far infinitely better than any other expansion ever released. High end rating was very hard, but normal was casual friendly. Same with PvP, entry level PvP (sub 2200) was pretty straightforward, but high end PvP had the most depth of any expansion ever.

Even in this video, it's showing the level process comparison. I agree leveling is bland and boring now. But what do you expect? Games over ten years old, I'm in my mid 20s, I cbf to grind a weeks worth of /played just to hit max level anymore, and most people feel the same way.
The video was not intended to say vanilla is better. It was only made to take a walk down memory lane for those of us who attended. :)

Fair enough.

I was level 60 in Vanilla, it was a great time, don't get me wrong - but the design of Vanilla was absolutely absurd. The only reason, like stated above it worked was because there was no other game to say "hey thats too hard for most players". Which is why most people didn't raid, or do the end game stuff - it took too long to reach it.

I did have a grand time playing. I still remember walking into Stormwind City the first time, never forget it!
I miss the fact that player reputations don't mean anything substantial anymore. Back in the day, people who acted like scum received appropriate treatment - they couldn't do Heroics, raids, or organized events due to their status. Now that Blizzard lets people do just about anything without the need for a specific group, people can act like poo sniffers and continue to act like idiots.

At this point I'd rather Blizzard just merge all of the servers than try to perpetuate the lie that is "Blizzard Community."
I personally miss a lot of the class quests for some of your abilities and other small things like soul shards and ammo and so on. Dont get me wrong, my bags are very happy that I dont have to lug that all around any more, or quest items, but it had a sense of realism to it all. Really though the class quests I miss the most. Getting your doomguard, or infernal, or dreadsteed was an accomplishment with a solid bit of lore behind it. They were not needed, but were definitely helpful and fun to play with. Summon a doomguard with 4 people, one gets sacrificed, classic. Or getting your different totem elements, or res as a pali, I really enjoyed those and wish they were back. Made people get out more and put in a bit of effort to really make their class their class.

On weekends it's around 12k give or take.
i miss a difficulty in lvl'ing... a difficulty in max lvl content... and a difficulty gearing... ppl having no choice but to interact with ppl... the days of no flying... the days of having to have ur guildies escort u thru enemy faction terrirtories... having to worry about not only the approach to a target... but ur escape route as well... a time that u only had skills to rely on instead of toys that immidiately removed u from danger, or made u an unstoppable aspect of death...

Yeah, I'm right at the Hillsbrad/STV/Arathi level. It's SO MUCH FUN. At first I thought an overpopulated realm like that would be aggravating, but I'm honestly having the most fun in WoW in forever just from leveling.

Pmuch this. The only thing I miss from Vanilla really, is my old friends that no longer play.
Didn't play in Vanilla, but I miss a lot of the old world stuff. Class quests, capture points that weren't inane, a lot of the atmosphere. But much of the latter was because I was a new player, so...

edit: also I liked weird prof specializations.
I do miss the class quests, old talent trees etc, but I certainly dont miss spamming trade to find an enchant for hours etc.

Old lvling was painful (I hated tabbing out to thottbot all the time), but it certainly is almost too easy now.
Def dont like the cata revamp to lvling either, I liked the way the world was before.

Yes! I couldn't agree more! I'm only in Ashenvale now at level 26 (horde), but stonetalon was fun, lots of low level wpvp. There always tons of people out and always helping with orange and red quests when needed. Barrens chat is crazy, probably worse then it was back in 05-06. Chuck Norris has been replaced by Donald Trump lol. I hate questing and leveling, but it's been enjoyable to say the least....getting that talent point has been exciting. And getting level 60s to run me through dungeons for all the gear B).

Edit: posted on wrong toon, stupid armory app.
