The Death of Archmage Timolain (part 4)

UPDATE: A decade ago, I posted the original thread (text bellow) on the WoW forums. Now that we finally have the Ashbringer in hand, it appears that Blizzard has written a love letter to all the original hunters who scoured Azeroth searching for the sword, and given us a hidden skin related to this early theory. It fills me with great joy to once again be able to post this with new information!

The item [Heart of Corruption](http://www.wowhead.com/item=139566/heart-of-corruption) is what we are after here. As the flavor text states ("A grim glimpse at a past that Ashbringer left behind, that many hoped it would never rekindle.") it seems this is indeed a nod to the early search. I've already been out to the WPL looking around and found that the Large Vile Slime (http://www.wowhead.com/npc=111122/large-vile-slime) is back, and he's a level 110 mob with a lot of health. I was able to solo it, but received no drops, so I'm of the mind that there is probably something else that must be done related to this mob. I'm flying around Azeroth myself at the moment checking every old lead I can remember, but in keeping with the spirit of the original hunt I've posted this thread to share all the new information I find, and hopefully get input from many of you. THE HUNT IS BACK ON BOYS!

Original text follows:

For some time now I have casualy been investigating one of the most interesting mysteries in Azeroth.

It all started when I was exploring a cave in the Western Plague lands long ago and I recived a bizzare item from one of the many silmes there: [Timolain's Phylactery] (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=15886).
phylactery: a scroll or roll (made of parchment), usually shown unfurled, sometimes containing lettering, signifying the Word of God. [Edit: This was wrong, in game a phylactery is a vessel which stores the soul of a lich]

Now this interested me because no one I asked had the slightest clue what this was. The single piece of information I mannaged to gather was that Timolain was an Archmage of some power.

Armed with this information I set out to discover more about Timolain. Considering that I had found the Phylactery in the Plaguelands, that was the place to start looking. A quick stop at the Bulwark for suplies yielded instant results! It seems that there is a Tauren there who has something interesting to say...
He talks about an Archmage who worked for the Scarlet Crusade by crafting them magical bows and guns of power. However before any of them were put into service he crated a special weapon of incrdible power for the Scarlet Highlord. Without warning he was killed by the crusade, and nothing more is known of him.
Now this REALY peaked my intrest as I had also been following the story of Ashbringer.

Timolain > Crafted a powerful weapon for the Scarlet Highlord
Ashbringer > Sword of the Scarlet Highlord

It seemed that my own investigation was tied to the tale of Ashbringer...

That had me excited and I made haste to the Scarlet Crudade's stronghold in the Western Plaguelands, Hearthglen, to look for more clues. After much searching the only thing I discovered was a small shack behind the barracks with an alchemy lab and a forge. Knowing that Timolain was an Archmage and a weapon crafter, It seemed logical that this was his home. Unfortunatly there was nothing there that could help me figure out what happened to him.

Out of ideas I returned to where it all started, the cave full of slime to look for anything I may have missed. Imidiatly unpon ariving I noticed something that had been overlooked on my last visit. At the entrance to the cave there was an old overturned mining cart and some tools and skelatons. The tools and cart reminded me of the same ones that I had seen at the mine in Hearhthglen. It would seem that the Crusade had buisness here, dumping Timolain's remains I assumed, yet they had been killed while doing so.

After sharing this new information with my friends, one of them mentioned that he had been in the cave before and noticed that the very same slime I recived the Phylactery from was for some strange reason, a caster. This was bizzare as slime are not known for thier magical skills. It was very aperent that Timolain was brought to this cave, and likely fed to the slime to hide his remains. However the slime that absorbed him took more than just his body.

Now it seemed that I had solved the mystery of Timolain's death... however the mystery of what had happened to the weapons he created was still unsolved. Rumaging around the cave some more I remembered a passage from a book I had read, talking about Ashbringer and fishing.
Now this cave is right next to a river, so I left the cave and went down to the river beside it. I found nothing there. Seeing as how this had all happened a while ago, I thought it might be plausable that anything in the river had been washed down stream by the current. Following the river south I found exactly what I wanted to find: the smashed remains of a wagon and crates agianst a bridge. Could it be that this wagon was carrying the weapons Timolain had created, intending to dump them in the cave with him?

I have spent many days fishing at that river now, hoping to reel in some clue. But my resolve is fading with no results, so I bring this story to you. Perhaps another can carry on where I left off and uncover these weapons, or even the Ashbringer it's self!
More information on the entire story from vanilla can be found here: http://wow.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=21&mid=1144995122179884380
It seems there is a new Timolain's Phylactery in the game files now (thanks to Ahrinus): http://www.wowhead.com/item=139623/timolains-phylactery

If anyone finds it, it would be worth taking to the Large Vile Slime, and the shack behind the barracks in Hearthglen.
Definitely think the slime has something to do with it. If you look at it, the abilities it casts has to do with arcane magic and Alexia Ironknife spoke of a mage that the Crusade killed that used arcane magic.
Killed that slim 3 times, doesn't even drop grays.
Anyone tried kiting the slime to Alexia or Hearthglen yet? At this point anything should be tried.
I brought this up in another thread, but they made it so you can complete Nat Pagle's book now. http://www.wowhead.com/item=139620/a-complete-copy-of-nat-pagles-guide-to-extreme-anglin - Was added with 7.0.3. They also updated the quality of the books from poor to common.

Yea, I've been hitting up every lead I can think of, no matter how unlikely it seems. Right now I'm working on getting max fishing and the artifact for that. Fishing was such a big theme with the search that I strongly suspect it will be important for this somehow.

That's fantastic! Something we can actually get our hands on right now. Thanks for sharing this.

It's a start. I've got both books now. Problem is finding somewhere or someone that combine the books... I've tried every possible idea I could come up with on WoWhead.
Nat Pagle ?

Is he on the Broken Isles somewhere ?

Where did you get the books ? Both in Dire Maul ?

I have the flight path to that Island, already glided there.

One of them you loot from corpses in Alterac Valley and the other is the tomes in DM

EDIT: I'll be posting as Araiel from now on so you don't get confused

UPDATE: Did not see Nat at the island... Apparently the quest Fish Frenzy (http://www.wowhead.com/quest=41010/fish-frenzy#comments) gets him to spawn. Also going to check if he's at Dal.
Having something for this hidden skin in AV seems a bit of a stretch.

Still, I'll go pick the DM book, and queue into AV see if I can get copies.

Yeah, but with the part where it says you can form the books whole (http://www.wowhead.com/spell=221224/reform-book) and the fact that the books are about the ashbringer, this has to be at least something. They just added it in 7.0 too.

I checked the class hall, inscription trainer, Narain Soothfancy and DM library. Didn't see anything useful myself.
Got my hands on both books.

I've talked to Nat Pagle in Draenor and Pandaria, and nothing.
Killed the slime in WPL, and nothing.
Went to Prince Totheldrin in DM, and nothing yet again.

Currently about to do BWL, and go back to the prince with Nef's head and see if that gets us anywhere.
Tried going to the prince with the head and the books, I could talk to him, but he had no dialogue options or anything.
