Open World is so Pretty!

General Discussion
Back in Wrath. I once swam around every single continent and explored the coastlands just because. It took awhile.

But there are some awesome things in this game. One of the cool parts of playing such an old game is how many little things are tucked away at this point.

Vanilla to wrath look like garbage,

You have such a way with words.

but the game starts looking really nice around cata.

Here's a little secret; most of the "vanilla" zones (that is, EK and Kalimdor) got at least a little bit of a facelift during the Cata remake. Some got more than others (Winterspring barely got touched, for example.) Making blanket statements like you did makes you look uninformed.
Blizzard artists are the best in the biz.
ITS TOO DARK. AT LEAST IN BROKEN ISLES. THEY MUST THINK EVERYONE SITS IN A DARK ROOM PLAYING LIKE ASMONGOLD. I LIKE HIM, BUT THAT'S PRETTY STEREOTYPICAL BASEMENT DWELLER. SORRY, BUT I LIKE TO HAVE THE LIGHTS ON WHEN I'M AWAKE.
It's amusing but I found that I couldn't appreciate Draenor's beauty until I could actually fly around it. Mists of Pandaria still has some of the better designed zones to fly around or explore, in my opinion.
I love how everything looks from MoP, on.

It's startling going from Legion to old world zones, like a totally different game.

I know the old world was retrofit for flying but I flew over Ungoro yesterday and had to laugh it was so terrible. I'd forgotten how awful they made the tree tops.

All they updated was trees and water, I thought? Still an improvement but still needs more.
When I'm roaming around, picking flowers for Alchemy, I notice things.

A lot of things but especially the water. Moving around, the light will cast on the water and it's incredible to me how they made it seem so real.

It ripples, flows, always moves and I'm eventually going to figure out how they did that.
Very amazing and lovely. I wish they could apply a similar effect to our hair.

A few ss's of random places.

Most of your pics are sky shots--but really...Space goat shoes? lol
I love the scenery in this game. That and the music are my most favorite things. I love to gather herbs or ore in the older zones, just to see them and listen to the music. :)
As a new player i didnt really lvl through much of the zones but when im finding raid entrances for xmsog runs i take my time getting there .Bcuz the scenery is soo beautiful . One of my fave places to fly around in is crystalsong forest . Its just soooo pretty . Im still exploring all the zones i like to do that while i wait for qs to pop or i just wanna relax . Sometimes the places make really nice backrounds for toon pictures . (:

I change my background on my desktop alot and many times I take a small section of the background taken from a picture and use stretch. Even it is just a blurred shade of what the full picture was, it can hold a single memory until that next location is found.
I love it so much, I even have a "tourist" outfit just for the task! (A red swashbuckler's shirt, tuxedo pants, plus a stylish hat -- this varies, since I have a few "stylish" hat patterns with my Leatherworking.)

(And I don't even do transmog. That's how much I love touring.)

Every year, I would take a near-suicidal run through the Alliance capital cities (I started this tradition in Vanilla. I've gotten good at dodging guards and players, even in Stormwind and Ironforge).

Every time a new expansion drops, I would run around the entire continent via water-walking (back then, I would buy water walking potions. Now? Water strider). I would take the occasional dip, too.

I'm actually due for a run around the Broken Isles! I already used eagle feathers to glide to those two little isles south of Dalaran -- do you know that there's flight paths you can grab? Anyways, haven't gone for a water run around the Isles because of school. (One more paper to go...)

I love it, I've loved it ever since Vanilla.

(Although I do miss wall walking. I've discovered so many no-man's land back in Vanilla.)
The design team that laid out the terrain and filled it deserves many cookies, and not the store bought kind. If you could toggle off all of the mobs that get aggro'd along the way, a ride through the countryside is best it's been since Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms. And aesthetically, beats even those.
Eh. Would appreciate it more if I was flying.
Yup and it makes me wish we had our ability to zoom out further.
