Legitimately concerned about raid spot

Mage

I already lost my raid spot for mythic Krosus. They replaced me with someone with a better class and I can't blame them. Now I'm in a 1/10 mythic guild sure to be replaced once we get to Krosus. Never lost my raid spot before, I'm parsing well above most mages, but if you have a bad comp and don't have enough carry specs you cant afford to bring a mage.

logs or it didnt happen
I got comfortable with the idea of being benched and rolled a DK alt to tank Mythic+ and main later in Mythic NH and Tomb of Sargeras. I can M+ short runs (Maw, CoS, DHT) during raids while sitting and gear my 2nd character with virtually no loss.

What, my main is missing out on a tiny bit of Mythic gear? The class is still trash, what's more gear gonna do?

Honestly, our damage, at least at 902ilvl and with 54 traits in Frost/Arcane (and 50 in Fire) is sad. Reroll i's the best option for now.

In general fire mage is very, very weak atm, I had to ask my raid leader to bench me so they could down M Chronomatic Anomaly, despite my past of regularly 80%+ parses.

That being said, right now, I believe Wrigglign sinew is a very bad dps trinket for us atm, and I would look to replace that if possible.

I also see you weren't spamming the living hell out of your scorch in the execute range, in fact, I see a lot of gaps in it, sometimes as high as a 10 second gap https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/raxM2n9tJcpq6LHd#fight=16&type=casts&source=3&ability=2948, which I want to believe was for your combustion, but if not, that could be a problem.

Either way, at about 3:30 seconds it says Krossus hit 30% https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/raxM2n9tJcpq6LHd#fight=16&type=resources&hostility=1&source=69 and you weren't scorching for near a full minute of it.

I thought I was doing better with the scorch belt but I guess not. However, there are other issues at play. With so few soaking circles, we eere getting lots of adds. During the add phase, I try to get off a scorch but once at 30% health they usually die before the last cast ever touches them. I am not saying that it's not my fault but there are reasons that I did not cast scorch at times when he was under 30%. Also, I hit the fireball keybind so much that I sometimes do it without thinking....that doesn't help, I admit.

Here's a comparison of a kill I had at a similar ilvl to yours. Biggest difference I can see is that you are just missing tons of damage due to missed casts. You're definitely maxing out on PF charges and not aggressively converting your HU procs to HS procs with FB/PF.

Finally, you aren't making full use of the scorch belt. Once you are in execute range, you should be spamming scorches a lot to proc tons of free pyros. You should also save your second pot to align with a combustion cd window sub 30%

Finally, here is a video of me doing mythic krosus as fire

I really do appreciate when you put videos up on the forum. It really does help to watch someone do it properly. I can see many things to change after watching you. I am curious about your thoughts on cinderstorm. Is it only good for use on large mobs where most or all of the cinders will hit? This is something else that has conflicting info that I find confusing.

Thanks!

Here's a log of me, along with (most of) the other mages in my guild, crushing DPS on Heroic Krosus as Frost. I understand it can be more difficult as Fire, but the truth is that mages really aren't in a bad spot, the skill required to play each spec competitively has just gone up. With enough practice you can get there.

Also, I get that swapping specs really sucks this expansion, but the truth is that if you want to be super competitive on ST you really need to be Frost. I swapped from being Fire in EN back when I first saw the 7.1.5 nerfs coming - it takes time (especially if you're at 54 traits), but it can definitely be worth it. Fire isn't a spec designed for ST right now, and that's kinda just something you and your guild have to come to terms with
