Kaldorei vs Quel'Dorei

General Discussion
I am very confused as to the difference.

Some quest givers call themselves Kaldorei. and some are Quel'Dorei.

I thought these were both night elves, are they different spellings of the same thing?
i think kaldorei is night elf and qual'dorei is high elf?

Correct.

Kaldorei - Children of the Stars (More accurately, this should be "Star Children")
Quel'Dorei - Children of Noble Birth
Sin'Dorei - Children of Blood.

Children of the Night.
Quel'dorei can refer to both highborne or high elves (their descendants), while kal'dorei is the night elf species as a whole.

Bubble children, or children of the bubble.
The only elves that still consider themselves to be Quel'dorei are the Silver Covenant elves.

And any High Elf in the Alliance . (Silver Covenant and those in Darnasus)
Sin'Dorei are the Blood Elves in the Horde.
As other people have said...

Kal'dorei = Nightelves
Sin'dorei = Bloodelves
Shal'dorei = Nightborne

Now the last is a little different:
Quel'dorei = Originally was the 'Highborne' Nightelves. They were exiled and became Highelves but kept the original name. They even named their new kingdom Quel'thalas, meaning 'High Kingdom'.

Currently the elves who would consider themselves Quel'dorei still are the Silver Covenant, the Highelves who are a part of the Alliance still, and maybe the elves of the Shen'dralar who left Dire Maul to rejoin Nightelf society.

This right here is the important part. Originally, Quel'dorei did mean highborne, as in, the higher ranking night elves. When the high elves themselves came to be a thing though with their blue eyes and pink skin, they became a new version of Quel'dorei and the actual -race- where as Highborne is just a higher ranking society of Night elf nobles.

So Kaldorei = Night elves.
Sin'dorei = Blood elves.
Shal'dorei = Night Fallen.
Quel'dorei = HIgh Elves (which is the blue eyed blood elves in Dalaran / alliance cities.)
