And while I understand why some people don't think high elves would get along with void elves, I think many -if not most IMO- would find kinship in this new group of exiles, and naturally would gravitate towards one another. And hopefully, will act in game as a joint effort going forward.

It would be nice if the Alliance could have elves that got along and liked each other like the Blood Elves and Nightborne do. Fat chance with the Night Elves. If Alleria and Vereesa's relationship spreads into that of the Void Elves and High Elves, well, it still doesn't strike me as a good course of logic, but it's a start. If we saw Void Elves at Quel'Danil helping to protect it, and in the Kirin Tor/Silver Covenant, that would be a great step forward.
Here's my draft to improve the recruitment questline.
I tried to not deviate a lot from the source material. It's an improvement, not an alternative.

----- SCENE 1: STORMWIND EMBASSY -----

[Starting as soon as you accept the quest to recruit the void elves]
Quest Objective: Take the portal to Ghostlands.

Anduin: Lady Windrunner, please begin the search for your exiled kin. Perhaps our champion here can assist you.
Alleria: Vereesa and her Silver Covenant went ahead to search for the exiles. Follow me, one of her mages is waiting for us.

[You follow Alleria outside the embassy, where a Silver Covenant warmarge keeps a portal open.]

----- SCENE 2: WINDRUNNER VILLAGE (GHOSTLANDS) -----

[After entering the portal you appear in Windrunner Village. The Silver Covenant has secured the place. Rangers patrol nearby, mages keep (non-clickable) portals to Stormwind and Dalaran open. Auric Sunchaser awaits nearby.]

Alleria: The Ghostlands. This was once Eversong Forest... a place of unbridled beauty. Windrunner Spire, my family home, stands not far from here.
Alleria: These woods once brought such joy to me and my sisters. To see them like this... fills my heart with sorrow.

New Quest: Talk to Auric Sunchaser.

Auric Sunchaser Gossip Text: While Silvermoon has allowed the quel'dorei to visit the Sunwell, the tensions between us and the blood elves never subsided. When I heard of Captain Alleria's return, I hoped she could talk sense into Lor'themar. The blood elves still shun the Alliance, but at least she has been able to rally many high elf groups, even the secluded highvale rangers. This gives me some hope for the future.

Dialogue when you talk to Auric:

Auric: Lady Alleria! Your sister awaits you at the Sanctum of the Moon! She has found evidence regarding this Magister Umbric that you are searching!
Alleria: Thank you, Auric. Let's not keep her waiting!

New Objective: Meet Vereesa at the Sanctum of the Moon.
[From this point, both Alleria and Auric become guardians and follow the player character.]

Dialogue when you arrive at the Sanctum of the Moon:

Alleria: This sanctum was once a testament to my people's mastery of the arcane. Now it is but a ruin.
Vereesa: Sister! We found these notes left by this 'Umbric' you seek.

[Alleria moves towards the notes]
New Objective: Check the notes.

Dialogue upon clicking the notes:
Umbric (Flashback): Our void experiments are proceeding well. I am certain we are on the cusp of a breakthrough... despite Rommath's smallminded protests.
Umbric (Flashback): The grand magister must understand that this power is crucial to the defense of Silvermoon. Never again shall the sin'dorei fall prey to our enemies!
Umbric (Flashback): Unfortunately, it seems our research has reached an impasse. I believe there is knowledge at the Andilien Estate that will springboard us forward.
Alleria: Umbric is a dedicated scholar... but his tenacity turned him and his followers into exiles.
Vereesa: Sister, are you sure this man can be trusted? Even if his intentions are good, he and his followers may already have fallen under the influence of the Void.
Alleria: It's a risk, but let's hope for the best. If it's not too late, I can tutor them to resist the whisper, and we may get formidable allies.
Alleria: Vereesa, stay here, keep the area safe. Auric, Champion, let's search in the Andilien Estate.

New Quest: Go to the Andilien Estate.

----- SCENE 3: THE ANDILIEN ESTATE -----

[Blood elf rangers are securing the building.

New Objective: Defeat the farstrider squad.

Dialogue upon aggroing.
Farstrider Ranger: There are quel'dorei here!
Farstrider Captain: Alliance lapdogs! I will expell these traitors from our lands!

Dialogue upon killing the captain.
Alleria: I had hope we would be able evade the Farstrider patrols. [sights] I consider them my brothers and sisters, but they serve the Horde now. It pains me that we are now on opposite sides.

New Objective: Check Umbric's notes.

Dialogue upon clicking on the notes:
Umbric (Flashback): It seems we are not the first of our people seeking to harness the void. I have found notebooks belonging to one whose very name is a curse... Dar'Khan Drathir.
Umbric (Flashback): It was Drathir's betrayal that allowed Arthas to corrupt the Sunwell... and left our kingdom in ruins. For the first time, I see why Rommath opposes our course of study.
Umbric (Flashback): Nevertheless, I believe this knowledge can be used for good. The bulk of Drathir's research was conducted at Dawnstar Spire. That is where we must go.
Alleria: Umbric risks much. He follows in the footsteps of treachery. Let us hope this obsession has not led to his downfall.
Alleria: Auric, return to Vereesa and tell her to meet us at Dawnstar Spire. We may need magical support to get out of there if the Farstriders follow our trail.
[Auric salutes Alleria and leaves]

New Quest: Go to Dawnstar Spire.

Dialogue upon accepting the quest:
Alleria (to the player): Come. We must make our way to Dawnstar Spire.

----- SCENE 4: DWANSTAR SPIRE -----

[The spire has been secured by Silver Covenant forces. Inside the building, mages keep portals active for quick escape if needed.

The player uses the teleporting device on the lower floor to get to the top of the tower. There, Auric, Vereesa and several rangers are waiting.

Vereesa: Sister! We came as quick as possible, the area is secured.

New Objective: Check Umbric's notes.

Dialogue upon clicking on the notes:
Umbric (Flashback): Drathir's quest for power led him to seek the fragments of an ancient world, one teetering on the brink of the Void itself.
Umbric (Flashback): His notes said it existed within a rift in the very fabric of reality. He never found this place... but I have succeeded where he failed. The way will soon be open to us!
Umbric (Flashback): Drathir believed this rift held an ancient object of unspeakable might. Perhaps this will be the key that allows us to gain control over the shadows.
Alleria (to the player): Based on these notes, I believe I can reopen the passage to this world he spoke of. Let me see…

[Alleria opens the rift to Telogrus]

Vereesa: I have a bad feeling about this. Auric, take this squad and escort my sister.

[Auric salutes, and the portal becomes clickable.]

New Quest: Complete the Telogrus Rift scenario.

(Continues on next post)
----- SCENE 5: TELOGRUS RIFT SCENARIO -----

Objective 1: Meet Umbric.

[Alleria, Auric and the Silver Covenant rangers appear in the first island of Telogrus.]

Upon advancing a little beyond the entrance, an in-game cutscene begins.
Void mage (upon being approached): Master Umbric, we have intruders!

[The void mage runs away]

[Alleria advances, followed by her escorts.]

[Ahead, Umbric and some of his followers approach carefully, ready for battle if needed.]

Alleria: There, up ahead. That must be Umbric.
Umbric: These are not sin'dorei! Calm down, everyone. Let's see what they want.
Alleria: Magister Umbric! I am Alleria Windrunner.
Umbric: Alleria Windrunner!? How did... My, what an unexpected honor!
Umbric: I was confused when I saw high elves approaching. The quel'dorei are notoriously short-sighted about the use of more... volatile... forms of magic!
Umbric: But, since you are the one leading them here, all makes sense. My people and I heard tales of what transpired on Argus.
Umbric: As you might imagine, we have a keen interest in your interaction with the darkened naaru.
Alleria: Another time, perhaps. This champion and I have been searching for you. We know of your exile from Silvermoon and felt we shared common ground.
Umbric: Indeed! Like you, we believe the void can be used to defend life rather than consume it. We have made great progress, Lady Windrunner, but many mysteries remain.
Umbric: Come with me, let me show you something.
Auric: I don't like this...

Objective 2: Follow Umbric and take a look at his artifact.

[Umbric guides Alleria and her escorts to the mysterious cube. You pass many void mages and warlocks, as well as few hired bodyguards.

Umbric: Take this cube, for instance. It is an ancient device, perhaps even predating life on Azeroth. It seems to have been locked, and we cannot yet open it.
Alleria: Careful, Umbric. Answers to such mysteries often come at a price. Let me have a look.

[Umbric and his followers start to channel their powers into the cube.]

Durzaan: At last... the future I foresaw has come to pass. Thank you for opening the way.

[The cube releases a void storm. The mages and warlocks nearby, but not Umbric, are engulfed by spheres of void power.]

Umbric: What is happening?
Alleria: Show yourself! Who are you?
Durzaan: Names are of little consequence. A more interesting question is... What shall you become?

[Void creatures spawn everywhere. Rangers, mages, Auric, Umbric and Alleria fight them.]

Alleria: This void storm is a conduit... a doorway that must be closed.
Alleria: Come, Champion. We must stop this transformation before my people are lost!

Objective 3: Fight your way to the second island.

Dialogue during the fight.
Durzaan: You elves are so attuned to magic. Your bodies welcome the power! Let the Void fill you!
Umbric: I won't let harm come to my people, monster!

[Upon finding and clicking on the portal to the next island, Alleria, Umbric, Auric and some other elves go there with you.]

[A Void Revenant rises from the darkness.]

Objective 4: Destroy the void abomination.

[As the fight goes on, the elves, both high and blood, fighter or caster, are one by one caught and engulfed by the void spheres.]

Durzaan (Upon defeat of the mini-boss): A minor setback. What is in motion cannot be undone. Surely you see this.

[Umbric is engulfed by void as well.]

Umbric: Rrrrurgaaghh! I feel the power... calling to me... changing me…
Alleria: Resist the whispers, Umbric! This "gift" you are offered is little more than enslavement.

Durzaan: The void will transform you... awaken what you were meant to be.
Durzaan: Do you not see what we offer? The majesty of chaos... the glory of infinite hunger!

Objective 5: Defeat Durzaan.

[Durzaan is in the next island. As you use the portal to it and approach Durzaan, another cutscene begins.]

[The remaining elves in the squad, including Auric, are trapped by the void.

[Auric screams. His voice changes.]

Alleria: Auric! Keep strong! We will free you!
Durzaan: We are on the same side, Windrunner... no matter what that traitor has taught you.

[Alleria and the player are caught by the darkness.]

Durzaan: Why do you resist? You stand on the threshold of a grand destiny.
Durzaan: I offer freedom. I offer strength. Cast off your mortal shackles.

[Alleria uses her power to free herself and the player.]

Durzaan: A pity you remain defiant. The patience of the masters is vast... but not infinite.
Alleria: I see through your lies, Durzaan. So will the others.

Durzaan: So be it. Your death is regrettable... but necessary.

[Final boss. Starts fighting Durzaan, then need to destroy the void conduits, battle minions and finally confront Durzaan for good.]

Dialogue during combat:
[Fight begins]
Durzaan: My people were reshaped by the void. Stripped of the limitations of flesh. We offer you the same gift.
Durzaan: I offer freedom. I offer strength. Cast off your mortal shackles!

[Upon falling to 50% health, Durzaan disappears.]

Durzaan: A minor setback. What is in motion cannot be undone. Surely you see this.

[New phase: Minions spawn. Need to destroy void conduits.]

Durzaan: Even shattered as it is, this place echoes with the whispers of the great ones who were slain... and the hatred of he who broke this world.

[Last conduit is destroyed. All elves are freed. They fall to the ground, already void elves, and kneel, weakened.]

Durzaan: The transformation... incomplete... must... be... finished...
Alleria: No. These people are not yours. They are not lost.

[Durzaan returns. Final battle]

Alleria: Our destiny is our own, Durzaan! You will not define our future!
Alleria: The only thing that will be finished here... is you.

[Durzaan is defeated.]

Durzaan: Nooooooooooo…

[As the void storm subsides, Alleria and the player are approached by Umbric, Auric and many transformed elves, including Silver Covenant and Umbric's followers.]

(Continues on next post)
Auric: The whispers in my head. Aaaagh...
Umbric: Alleria... Champion... My people are free, but we have been... changed. And the voices…
Alleria: Durzaan tried to tear away your mortality. To make you like him--a slave to his hunger.
Alleria: But your fate is still your own, Umbric. I can teach you to quiet the whispers. To make the shadows serve you, instead of you serving them.
Auric: What will be of us now?
Alleria: I sense the powers at your command. They are... considerable. You would make valuable allies of the Alliance.
Umbric: My arrogance was nearly our undoing. I dabbled with powers far beyond my control. If you will train us, Alleria, we will follow where you lead.
Umbric: Silvermoon turned its back on us long ago, we have no choice but to walk a new path. Today we are reborn...
Alleria: Yes. You are now children of the Void. Ren'dorei.
Umbric: Very well. From this day forth, the Alliance has our loyalty.
Alleria: And in turn, I pledge to aid you on your journey. The Champion and I will inform High King Wrynn of this news. Then I will return, so that we can begin your training.
Umbric: It will take some time for us to adjust to our new forms. We look forward to your return, Lady Windrunner. And Champion... you have our deepest thanks.
Umbric: Together, we will prove them wrong.

[A portal appears. Clicking on it ends the scenario.]

----- SCENE 6: CONCLUSION -----

[You, Alleria and Auric, as well as some of the transformed rangers, appear in Dawnstar Spire, where Vereesa awaits.]

Vereesa: Sister! Thank the Light you came back. And... Auric? What happened to you?
Auric: I'll explain later, Vereesa. When I make sense of it. For now, I am as confused as you.
Alleria: I'll explain later, sister. Champion, let's return to Stormwind.
Vereesa: My mages have a portal ready.

New Quest: Return to Stormwind and talk to King Anduin.

[Clicking on the Silver Covenant portals send you back to the Embassy to finish the quest.]

Alleria: High King Wrynn, the Champion and I found the sin'dorei exiles. Like me, they have been changed by the void--but their hearts and minds remain their own.
Alleria: I will be their guide. I will train them to control the whispers of shadow. In return, they will fight for the Alliance against all its foes.
Anduin: It may take time for these void elves to earn the trust of some in our ranks. But so long as they adhere to your teachings, they are welcome in the Alliance.
Anduin: You have done us a great service this day, Lady Windrunner, $p. You have my thanks.
Alleria: It is an honor to serve once more, High King. For the Alliance!
Anduin: For the Alliance!
So, what do you think?

As you can see, I:

- Incorporated Vereesa and the high elves in the questline.
- Added another a known character to the void elf roster: Auric Sunchaser (thought he may need to change his surname...). In essence, he's the opposite of Umbric, and leads the fighter half of the void elves. Also, he's trusted by high elves.
- Seized the opportunity to show blood/high elf animosity.
- Put a little more interaction with Umbric before he's transformed.
- Set up high/void elf collaboration

Looks like Blizzard added some more High Elves to Stormwind. Either that or they've been there forever and I just haven't noticed.

There are 3 conclusions that can be drawn from this.

1, they are expanding on High Elf lore and are preparing them to either be a new Allied race or a major patch feature.

(This combined with a few of Allerias lines, "For now." and "One day Silvermoon will fight with the Alliance." along with the fact that the Void Elve have the notes of the guy who took down Silvermoon's defenses for the Scourge, shows some foreshadowing.)

2, The High Elves are going to become essentially one with the Void Elves. Either by making a Alliance Elven society or by taking a dip in the grape juice.

3, Blizzard Dun Goofed.

Awesome!
Void Elf Spells are all Purple Blue like Voidwalkers and certain Shadow Priest Spells.

Naturally pure Void(used by Sha of Pride, Shadow Priests and Void Broken) is Purple Blue unlike the merely Purple Shadow.

The reason they aren't incorporating Vereesa and High Elves is so they can add them as their own Allied Race at a later date. They are already hinting at adding them with the NPCs all over. TBH, there is way too much money for them to leave on the table without adding High Elves. They've been wanted since Beta for Classic and the clamor has never died down, even with Blood Elves being added in TBC. I highly suspect a Vereesa/Alleria vs Lorthemar/Sylvanas storyline at some point which would be a great introduction point of High Elves. Why would you waste your Ace-in-the-Hole hype generator at a time when the expansion is coming out and there is already hype?

With all of that said, your idea was very good and well thought out. It would make Void Elves far more palatable. I'd still prefer the Aethas Sunreaver theory and story lorewise, but if High Elves had to be incorporated this would definitely be the better way.
Apologies to everyone sick of the High Elf discussions, but it looks like we're in for another round of cautious optimism. >.>

my favorite type of optimism
Looked fine to me, Alamara. A few typos here and there, but the premise works just fine. Then again, I'm fine with things as they stand. More High Elves for when they become playable.
So I bought the expack finally, I think the only thing I wish the void elfs had was a true white or paler skin color since all the pale ones are based in blue.

I'm pretty disappointed about the void proc though, I already did not like the new shadow form effect and now I have to deal with it randomly. At least the animation for it fading away is pretty neat, I just think "void form" would work better if it only changed the skin/hair instead of all your gear.

I also hope we get more info on how the velf ghostblades and etc operate, but I'm just glad that they actually named classes for them.

Although the fact that they made a point of adding new helfs to sw and the rift does make me wonder what role they will have in bfa.

I do appreciate the effort, and I do believe this would have been better than what we got, it is a lot more involved, but my main issue with the Void Elves come from the lack of set up previous to their introduction in previous patches.

It shows how Blizz hadn't made their mind about them even by 7.3, and that's the crux of the issue, they just weren't set up properly within the world. Even if Umbric's group remained just as in game in terms of backstory, it would have been far more meaningful set up and pay off if his group had actually shown up before.

Personally about your fix, loved it, but not sure about Auric; he does serves a purpose as a more neutral, or at least cordial, presence in the Sunwell -and how such a position may revel itself untenable in the coming war, but that's also part of why I like the idea of someone trying their hardest to maintain neutrality- So he helping Alleria and the SC on this feels like going against that. It feels off he would jeopardize in any way his -and any high elf pilgrims since he is the ambassador- access to the Sunwell.

I personally would have put a Silver Covenant elf on that position, Scout Captain Daelin could be a good choice

Just making them closer to the void elves does not negate them a role in the future. Thought I'm afraid their chance of being playable is slim to none now, and even Blizzard plans to incorporate them. There's the wounded elf theory, after all.

I chose Auric because he was serving under Alleria in the past, and because he's a known name that people reckognize. Also, "Auric and Umbric" sound funny, and they are almost opposites in many ways.

Edit: BTW, I got a new mog. Most of my old ones felt really weird with the blue skin... :(

Entropic Embrace doesn't change your gear. It only affects skin and hair.

this could be hinting towards the next allied race for the glorious alliance.

I doubt it's hinting at the -next- Allied Race, since that WILL be Dark Iron Dwarves with a strong possibility of Kul Tiran Humans coming afterwards. Maybe sometime after them we might see High Elves. Ideally, I'd like to see High Elves added alongside Wildhammer Dwarves.

Since they should be a basic option for human customization, Kul Tirasian humans would suck... .

It's a purple energy coating while also changing your base model to one with purple skin and grey hair. The model change doesn't affect gear, the energy coating does (thought it has almost no effect on helmet and shoulders, and no effect at all on your cape).

Edit: Correction: it has no effect on cloak, helmet, shoulders or any other armor geoset (like leg plates, glove plates or belt buckles). It does coat armor that is just a texture over your body.

A little late here and I'm sure this has already been said but you can't add high elves because that would simply fracture the blood elf population, you have to add something completely stupid to stupify the elf race so the hard core rpers and those who want ONLY high elf won't switch over.

With that said, what you don't do is give them some of the best PvP racials out there. Now edgy kids and hardcore PvPers are going to be the ones playing them. Good Job blizz.

Cool story... it's a logical fallacy, but it's still cool... I guess.
