Loot Rules for Transmog Runs

Since the Patch 7.3.5 change to use personal loot rules in leveling dungeons, we’ve heard a lot of feedback from Transmog hunters concerned about how this has affected the ability to collect appearances from older content. We hear you, and agree it’s a problem, so we’ve been working on a more robust solution for Battle for Azeroth.

Once these updates are implemented, entering a dungeon or raid that is trivial for you (i.e.: your character is 10 or more levels higher than the dungeon or raid’s intended level) will activate a “legacy loot mode.” That loot mode will work like this:

  • The number of items dropped by bosses will be the same as it would have been if you were in a full party. So if you’re in a 5-player dungeon, you’ll get 5 players’ worth of loot.
  • For raids with a flexible raid size (such as Raid Finder), this will act as though there were 20 players in the raid.
  • All items on the loot table will have a chance to drop, not just the ones that are designated for your spec.
  • If you have multiple players in the group, the loot will be split among those players, but be tradeable. For example, if you’re clearing with one other player and kill a boss that should drop 4 items, you’ll each be able to pick up two items and trade them between each other if you like.

While the personal loot change was a key part of what allowed us to expand leveling dungeons to encompass a wider range of levels, and we’re happy with it in that environment, we recognize that it’s not a great experience for those who enjoy clearing older content for transmog, and hope that these changes will make that more enjoyable once they’re complete.

Thanks again for all of the feedback!
Thank you guys so, so much. Glad we stuck to it, and really appreciate the feedback!
Oh my god.

Thank you.
This is the best news. Thank you friendly Argus goat!
This is wonderful news, looking forward to it!
So you not only fixed the dungeon situation, but buffed WoD and LFR? That's pretty grand. This is precisely the sort of small change that means a lot to me and will help you retain my sub.
So an old raid will give 20 pieces of loot? Or am I mis reading that part haha

I believe he's saying it will drop loot equal to what you'd get if you were using group loot with a raid of 20 people. I believe that's something like 5 or 6 pieces, but I don't remember the rate at which the number of drops scales off the top of my head.
Nice one, Blizz. Thank you, sirs.
See guys, they DID hear you :)

It's also great to see this affects the LFR modes, since I've really held off on doing solo LFR due to the current rules in place.

Along with this hopefully we'll get some more "hidden" options for transmogging. :^)
Okay legit devs, you've done some REALLY stupid things like the NLC and pretty much all of 7.3.5, but this makes up for a LOT of it. Thank you for listening!!!

PS: One more change I would recommend is if a dungeon is premade with all guild members, loot should be able to be changed, including Mythic+. Forcing Personal and not being able to trade gear because of "iLvl upgrades" feels awful.
This is good, but how about in addition to this, rings, necks, trinkets etc can't drop on legacy loot mode? Would make things so much better for mog farming runs.

So you needlessly broke something and now you're going to make us wait months for the proposed fix?
Thanks for listening to us! I was one of those who keep posting a million times in the huge 100 page thread complaining about this issue and it's nice to know you are doing something about it.
Looking forward to it!
what about old looking for raid loot tables? we still get gold sacks and a maximum of 2 pieces a wing for stuff like dragon soul and theres still no reroll tokens. ive wanted the lfr recolors for deathwing weapons forever but its simply not worth the effort to run them right now
Thank you VERY much for listening and responding! I noticed you mentioned BfA. Am I correct in assuming these changes won't be updated until BfA goes live or should we count on seeing them sooner?

I want to be able to hide EVERYTHING if I choose.
The post mentions LFR but specifies flexible modes. Any confirmation on if this will affect pre-flex LFR (DS/T14/Throne of Thunder)? Oh, and Hellfire Citadel. Because for some reason the third boss of each wing isn't guaranteed a piece of loot on Personal.

Also, not to sound greedy, but can this be toggled on/off between this and Personal? Sometimes the guaranteed spec-appropriate drop is really nice to get.

That'd be awesome if anything non-moggable/non-vanity/non-quest can't drop.

Ah yes, getting a ~20% chance at a single piece of loot for the spec feels so much better than a guaranteed 2-5 pieces of loot from the entire table.

Toggle-able is a fine option, one I would like to see, but don't spread misinformation.
