[Spoilers] The Great Gnomish Disappearance

Story Forum
Greetings, fellow nerds and nerdettes. Recently, a new discovery was made in Tiragarde. A place called 'The Rusted Vault', a massive scrap-heap, guarded with laser turrets and mecha-puppers. Here are some pictures:

Now, while exploring this place, we come across a strange symbol. An anchor overlaid atop a cog. Here it is below:

Strange, yes? What happened here? Well, we best turn to a nearby questgiver and see if we can get some answers. Parin Tinklocket is in a cave nearby, we can find a destroyed mech on the way. He gives us two quests, pictured below:

All the gnomes have vanished from Boralus? Curious. Parin confirms these robots are of Gnomish craft, so the mystery of what happened here thickens. After doing some surveying with a flashy-floodlight, and dismantling some Hord-I mean, mecha-puppers, we turn the quests in for a couple of lines of "Thanks" dialogue, and then a speech bubble, pictured here:

A cliffhanger, sadly. Nothing I can see that continues this for now. So, we've got a mystery on our hands here in Tiragarde Sound - the Gnomish population has gone missing, and the only clues are to be found here in this semi-unfinished junk heap.

So let's hear some theories! Could this be a potential tie-in to an allied race? Mechagnomes? The Blingtron war? A mass genocide of the Kul Tiras Gnome population? Exciting stuff, to be sure.
MECHAGNOMES CONFIRMED
This is fascinating. I hope it does really end up going somewhere.
Blingtron expansion confirmed

121,172 robo-units have been assembled and now march to face unknown threat in the Magnetic Chasm below the Molten Eternium Sea. Increase generosity circuits in all Blingtron units to minimize organic awareness.

Organic awareness of The War is growing too quickly. Above-ground units possibly infected. Seed plans for next-gen Blingtron remote to call on veteran units that can assess and destroy.

Same!

I'm really excited to finally see some gnome lore.
Gnome Lore?

Who are you and what have you done to blizzard?
Our time... IS NOW!

RISE UP BROTHERS AND SISTERS! PURGE THE MENTALLY DEFICIT SWINE OF THE HORDE AND ALLIANCE AND WE SHALL RULE AZEROTH WITH AN IRON FIST AND A MIND POWERED BY THE MIGHT OF THE TITANS THEMSELVES-

*coughcoughcough*

*blinks and looks around*

... I mean... what a most curious occurrence...
Wouldn't a Great Gnomish Disappearance have required a Gnomish Appearance first?
I'm so excited for gnome lore it's my first time

Mechagnomes might make a good counterpart to Vulpera, actually. A somewhat silly side race that doesn't play into the main story too much.
Mechagnomes for Alliance, Vulpera for Horde.
I like where this is going!

I strongly suspect we'll see 12 total allied races by the expansion's end. With mechagnomes, or something like them, that'd leave only undead and worgen riggings unused by any currently likely candidates.

Thin Kul Tirans were confirmed though.
You know I did always find it odd that none of the other kingdoms had any manner of connection to the gnomes. Short of Stormwind, we never see any other workshops or construction going on. It nice to see that happening in kul tiras. My lil theory:

-Do to his mention of the political climate, I'd assume this guy lost contact with his friend sometime after Daelin's death. That means this shop has been exsisting at least sometime before Kul Tiras leaving the alliance.

-Do to the gear and anchor logo, I'd dare say this may have been a military instalation for kul tiras. Perhaps the sailors were expirementing with gnome technology. I mean, most gnome tech we see is for war, or least travel, why not add that to BOATS? We already have the alliance steamships.

-Kul tirans aren't really the nicest of people, from what we've seen. What if the disappearance of the gnomes is something relating to hatred for the alliance, causing the gnome population to be the target? Afterwords, the shop was left abandoned.
Only with a race as neglected as gnomes would "none of them are here any more" be construed as a sign of presence and lore.
Well, there's a hype train I wasn't expecting to get onto today! I can see it now -- a mecha gnome hunter with little propeller twintails, riding a mechanostrider, followed by two robot bunny pets! It's a mech-lover's dream :D

I thought they were just a normal customization option and not an Allied Race
Okay this makes me really excited since the last time we got anything gnomish (Aside from Gelbin's scattered cameos and the secret boss in Gnomeregan) was freaking Wrath of the Lich King

Where?

All I've heard of them is they're intended as flavor NPCs, not a separate race.
