General Discussion
According to the shorts (PDFs) that Blizz released Genn, Anduin, and Tyrande all knew, before it happened. They knew, when the Horde army were heading towards the city, because they had scouts, a druid messenger, etc. tell them......

yet they couldnt evacuate the city of the citizens?????????????

they should have immediately created portals....

Failliance
If you read the shorts, then you'd know that they were in the process of evacuating civilians.

a little late and they could have easily sent a better defense

You try to evacuate a large city and then tell us out it went especially with a short time table.
The probably also didn’t know the tree was made out of dry straw.

In a fantasy game, with portals, sure!

Sent Alliance troops/artillery to defend the Dark Shore against the Horde.
Evacuate citizens through portals ( which they did)
Use magic, instead of buckets of water... you know Anduin can mass res in the Battle for the Undercity, but cant help the Night Elves at all...
I mean the Alliance have so much at their disposal, yet didnt use any of it

That's a mass heal, not a res. You don't see any spirits. A res would look like the one in the BC cinematic, when the BE brings back the Orc.

you have to admit there is a severe plot hole in this patch

Use magic instead of water buckets? We didn’t need either. The tree may have instantly burst into flame top to bottom, but the elves inside were fire proof.

thats what Im saying.......

The Alliance, heroes of Azeroth, etc. can do so many things, yet this happens and its like they all forget what they are capable of.

It’s almost like the writers wanted this to happen, and were actually trying to ignore ideas that would stop it.
Yeah, they did. As soon as they heard that the Horde army re-routed, Anduin has Archmage Malin go to Dalaran to get MORE mages to do the portal thing.

So the Alliance literally had all their mages and the mages of the Kirin Tor provided evacuating citizens, and there was such an influx of people that they literally spilled out into Goldshire despite the people of Stormwind opening up their homes to host the refugees, and it still wasn't enough.

You try to evacuate a large city.

Can I use Mage Portals???

How long do you think it would take to fully move an entire city's population? I'll let you know something, to fully move the US military from the middle east, it would take 2 full years of constant withdrawal... and that's a coordinated military....

We're talking civilians. Lore-wise, Darnassus not merely 986 people like the quest said, but a MASSIVE city.

No, portals will not work, Portals require a LOT of energy and, lore-wise, are very rare. There is also only ONE way out to the sea and not enough of docks. The fact you think "use portals" show you are confusing the constant portals in game for the gameplay convenience as if it was how the lore actually is.

Don't pretend like it was reasonable to even move the populace in a few months' time, let alone the week or so the had.

The problem - and it's the problem at the heart of most Blizzard writing - is that they don't like to play by the rules.

Any effective fiction needs to establish rules of how the world works, and stick to them, for the consumer to suspend disbelief. But Blizzard likes to cheat for their own plot convenience. Portals/hearthstones...heck, healing magic...exist when the writers need them to, and don't exist when the writers want a big dramatic moment. Time passes based on plot requirements. Malfurion, to whom nature speaks, has to be told by another elf that the Horde have attacked from the north because apparently nature forgot to mention that.

Until Blizzard is willing to establish and follow the rules of their fictional universe, not just handwave for plot convenience and "rule of cool", their writing will always be weak, contrived, and riddled with plot holes.
if im not mistaken it was under the assumption that the horde would occupie the city not burn the tree down

Another person that has no idea how long it would take to evacuate an entire city nor have any idea of the actual lore of the world lol.
