Night Elves shouldn't have expected mercy.

In the A good war short story we have this.

"A group of night elves—most, but not all, had been druids or magi—had been hiding in the depths of this thicket. When the pack of Horde troops passed by, the kaldorei had unleashed arrows, magic, blades, and every other instrument of war, wounding almost the entire raiding party. All thirty of the Horde had been brought down within seconds. The druids had called upon nature to subdue most of them, and the magi had trapped a few in ice. Perhaps one or two had died quickly. The
rest had been helpless—in pain, but alive.
And only then had the killing truly begun.
These Horde soldiers had not died in a flash of fire—they had burned slowly, in agony, screaming.
The night elves had done everything they could to prolong the horror, to maximize the pain."

Keep in mind this happens BEFORE Teldrassil gets burned down.

After finding out the Night Elves were doing that to horde soldiers, id have burned down Teldrassil my self, and skinned alive any night elves captured.
Night elves should have always been ruthless rather than being defanged into hippies to mesh better with the alliance.
Friendly reminder that takes part after Astranaar, where all civilians were killed. Also, don't expect Night Elves to be friendly and loving toward you when you start a war and you're killing all their comrades

Astranaar is a dead horse already beaten into fertilizer.

The night elves do not need further motivation to inflict pain on their enemies. They have had legitimate grievances for the majority of wow.

Up until the burning of Teldrassil All alliance deaths were quick.
What? Did you expect to invade night elf lands without them fighting back or something?
It's not like The Horde are real people anyway.

As Sylvanas noted, the Night Elves torturing people to death didn't help them slow down the horde, all it did is cause pain to grunts who were already going to die.
If the Horde wanted to die painlessly, they should have stayed at home where they could die of old age.

Instead they chose to invade someone else's home, and kill someone else's family. At that point they lost the right to complain about how they died.
So you'd massacre civilians because your soldiers were killed in brutal ways.

Is that you, Lt Calley ?

You're right, but it does feed into that Cycle of Hatred thing, where everyone's doing increasingly horrendous things to each other, and pretty soon "who struck first" stops mattering.

You fight like civilized humanoids, or you get burned alive on top of your tree.

Oh yeah, soldiers fighting in a war killing the enemy really justifies torching their home and killing the civilians who had nothing to do with it. The lengths I've seen some people go to to justify a genocide in the last week has been really disturbing.

You want to torture people to death, but you dont want the inevitable consequences? Saurfang had kept the war relatively clean up until that point. Even after that he tried to keep it clean, when he took Lor'danel he let the civilians go after interrogation as per the horde quests.
Who cares. Burn them all. Night Elves are trash.

I'm still confused. You thought the Horde could invade night elven lands without suffering?

I don't think it's the killing enemy soldiers that most people here would take issue with. It's the torture. Not to say it justifies burning Teldrassil, it doesn't.

You thought you could torture people to death without consequences? We'll now Teldrassil is an eternal warning for Night Elves. This is what happens when you stop fighting in a civilized manner.

You apparently thought you could invade night elven lands without consequence.

And lol@horde complaining about not fighting in a civilized manner.

So what you're saying is because they tortured Horde troops burning down a civilian city suddenly becomes justified? Disregarding that two wrongs don't make a right, soldiers being tortured by the enemy will never justify murdering the civilians who had nothing to do with it.
