What is wrong with auto attacks in this game?

General Discussion
I just 1v1ed a boomkin with only auto attacks on my arms warrior. almost same item level, 295 boomkin vs 302 warrior. He used a staff not in moonkin form and I used my mace not in defensive stance.

He absolutely destroyed me mainly due to yseras gift ticking to counter the damage, and arms warrior having no passive combat healing expect from traits, which I don't think would have made of the difference. It was pretty bad.

How is this possible? How can a ranged caster out melee a 2 handed melee specialist? Isn't arms supposed to be all about 2 handed weapons? Why does a BOOMKIN do similar if not more damage than me from auto attacks?

It doesnt make any sense to me at all. What about class fantasy? What about anything that makes actual sense? I have a mace as a WARRIOR and he has a staff as a CASTER and he owns me with it.

Auto attack damage in bfa doesn't make any sense to me.
We're not balanced around auto attacking, y'know. You're supposed to use your abilities.
Auto attacks haven't been a significant thing for a long time.

They're not "exciting" or "flashy", so they've been slowly phasing them further and further away from relevance for years now.
Because this game is broken on so many levels that it isn’t really worth playing anymore.

the point isn't about balance, it just doesn't make any sense to my brain how a 2 handed specialist loses to a caster with a stick. Its about the rpg aspect, the fantasy of it, not the actual gameplay per se.

I guess that logic make sense, but I still don't like it. A warrior who specializes in 2 handed weapons should be stronger than a caster with a staff in melee combat. The fact that it doesn't make sense bothers me.

I agree with you, but game design that makes sense has been trending out of favor for a long time, and is no longer a priority for Blizzard.

It's not that I don't agree with you. You're right. It's just that it's not news, it's been like this for a long time and it's not going to change back any time soon.

DPS lose when they fail to push buttons. Thanks you Blizz. Otherwise, the game would be much worse.
Maybe his stick had higher damage than your stick did.
People replying fail to see that they were in an auto attacking duel. The caster with a staff beat the warrior.
But as you already know, ysera's gift will counter the damage.. So try again with something like a mage or warlock in melee, maybe a holy paladin if you're able to find one.
