Adapting for the "modern audience" which has all these things already and yet is a fraction of what the old audeince was...seems legit.

Is legit. Otherwise, they would have simply loaded up the 1.12 server software, offered the 1.12 client w/o putting it in battle.net, and been done with it.

Because the "modern audience" is not only people coming back to WoW for Classic servers, but those already playing on Modern servers as well. Hence the combined sub for all of World of Warcraft. :)

Simple.

Exactly my point to you bud. You won't adapt, you want the game to adapt.

The game is adapting. :)

It's you who doesn't like it.

I don't have to want the game to adapt, they are adapting the game for the modern audience. (Those that will play Classic at launch that already have a sub, and those that are coming back to WoW at Classic launch.)

Those that don't like sharding are why we are getting this to begin with.

That initial drop of the game is the biggest part of community building in wow. Shard that you miss it. Wait til sharding is off (if ever) you miss it because everyone is now spread. If you wait and get you're "tolerable" starting questing a week later you miss a week a play, oh well you're one person. Missing the community building in the beginning is like building a house on a cracked foundation.
Well said. This issue is a microcosm as to how Blizzard views the Classic playerbase as a whole. Are they trying to cater to entitlement and convenience driven gameplay? Or do they want to appeal to those players who appreciate and love a true mmorpg experience, and accept all aspects of that experience?

And as you say, the community starts forming the second the server goes live. If Blizzard fractures the playerbase right from the start, the community will never recover.

You don't see the irony of calling someone selfish when you are essentially telling someone "my way or the highway"?

Ok.

Well bud I'm not the one asking Blizzard to put in development time to add a """"feature"""" to the game that barely anyone wants and will make a massive part of the playerbase (if not the majority) angry in a time when public perception of the company already isn't good and then add more development time to be able to turn said """"feature"""" off so that it doesn't break the game, without ever thinking to myself why they would have to turn it off at all if it was such a good thing, just so I could get out of Elwynn Forest 20 minutes faster than I would have been able to if this """"feature"""" was never added at all.

So no, I don't.

It's those against temporary sharding are the ones that need to do the critical thinking. It is the best solution to the (obvious to anyone that can think critically) problem of starting area overcrowding is to have them temporarily sharded.

Dynamic respawns - No. Horrible and exploitable.
Multiple servers and merges later - No. Blizzard has NEVER done server merges, and they never will.
Queues - Unacceptible in 2018, as this is not 2004 anymore.

This example is only something that is likely to happen in Blackrock Mountain, outside AQ, and in major cities. This example is not going to happen out randomly questing, though still possible if you have a huge raid sitting some random location and you didn't get the invite before going out there.

Sharding helps with stability and can allow for more players on one realm. I'd personally enjoy a 1-realm classic experience to fend off future issues with players leaving and to ensure I can play with all my friends, minus those in the other faction.

They are using the new client because in 14 years technology has changed, upgraded, and improved. This is drastically different from the actual game itself but ok. Keep arguing every point my man.
blizzards heads are so far up their *** they make this stupid new technology that they're so proud of like sharding and level scaling that NO ONE WANTS but they're so stubborn to give up on their "amazing new technology" blizzard just get rid of that crap and eat your losses because you are losing a lot more the longer you keep them. it's ok to invent something you think it's cool and have it fail. it failed..admit it and move on!

people want classic because they don't want these things! they don't want classic + sharding.. they don't want classic + scaling... they don't want classic + LFG ... they want CLASSIC . why is this so hard?

No additional development time is needed. It is part of the server infrastructure that Classic will use already.

How can anyone think this is good for the game?
Idiot retail players, those who started in Cata, and redditors at r/classicwow

And so now you're ok with sharding existing not just in beginning zones, but Blackrock Mountain, the AQ event, and major cities?

This is precisely why sharding can't infect the game to begin with.

I agree. It's not on day 14 or day 21.
But folks here want the convenience of retail.
Log in, tag all those boars solo while only seeing a handful of other players.
Rofl at the people that think sharding will be temporary.

Still in the demo a week after Blizzcon, when hey, the initial launch hype has died down.

Hurdehurdehurrrrrr

I don't. I have no plans to ever play them again if they can't handle something like Classic better than a private server can. Are you denying that public perception of Blizzard is particularly negative right now?

11/08/2018 12:45 PMPosted by Gloryholadin
This was where I knew you have either never played Vanilla since.. erm.. Vanilla, or were just trolling for the sake of. Either way,

I've been playing on private servers for a long time. I've speed leveled to 60 so many times I don't need guides or addons anymore. It doesn't take long to get through the starting zones if you know what you're doing, and the bumrush of players swarming low level zones when a new server opens is one of the most fun parts of the game. And it actually DOES help the community to not have sharding implemented. "Wow this guy has stolen my Kobold from me twice. I'm only level 2 but I've decided I'm going to hate him forever." "Hey this dude saved me when I overpulled even though he didn't have to. What a nice dude, I hope I see him again." This stuff CAN happen when sharding is implemented, but it WILL happen (and exponentially more) if it isn't.

There is absolutely no reason why Blizzard should have to resort to sharding when some server in a European dude's basement is capable of dealing with whatever the problem they're trying to address is. It's not like Blizzard is only opening one server and funneling everyone who wants to play Classic into it at once.

I swear the people who whine about how "bad" the experience is when everyone is in one zone are almost always tunnel vision players (and to be fair this may not be you). You don't HAVE to kill Defias Bandits, you don't HAVE to kill Hogger, you don't HAVE to complete every single quest. Just go grind some wolves or bears or spiders or something instead of standing around waiting for Hogger to spawn.

Sorry that some people can see the inherent problems in an over simplified launch design and others can't....?

It's pretty easy for both sides to be "100% certain" its needed or not needed, but I'll be laughing my !@#$ off if they remove sharding as a potential tool and then come launch, all of you drama queens are lighting the forums up because you can't "tag boars", "can't complete the quest (because you ALL seem to have forgotten that some vital chain quests while leveling have world-clickable drops with an ungodly long respawn timer within the first 6 levels in most, if not all, starting zones, x 100s of new players)", can't log in because of massive queues and/or server crashes... just cuz you wanted to be petulant and go with obvious design flaws.

Seriously, if you ACTUALLY believe that they will go back on their word on something like this then why would you even waste your time on classic? Honest question

I believe that they will go back on their word on this because they have gone back on their word on exactly this, in exactly this circumstance, with exactly these reasons, before.

Seriously, read up on what they have said about sharding on RP servers. They know sharding is bad for community. They promised not to use it on RP servers except when absolutely needed.

It is still active on RP servers. They never turned it off.

This is not doomsaying. It is not slippery slope. This is "They said exactly this once before, and they did not live up to it." Why should I expect anything different this time?

Ill stop you right there. Why even play classic wow then? If they are going to lie about this then why would you waste your time trusting them in making it vanilla at all? With this logic, what if they don't use 1.12 and just decide to use 7.3.5 and add dks and monks and wow tokens and cash shops and paid level 60 boosts?

Seriously, if you ACTUALLY believe that they will go back on their word on something like this then why would you even waste your time on classic? Honest question

the game isn't out yet. There's still 9-10 months.
If Blizz can see from our forum comments just how many are opposed to it maybe they will look for another way. Plenty of youtubes and scenarios have been posted here and it gives the devs proof of what's happening and maybe food for thought.

It's fighting the good fight. And if it's in an turned on, oh well then at least those of us that didn't want it gave our best shot.

None of these answer my question I gave you. I didn't ask "Hey why don't you guys think they will be honest?"

I said IF you don't trust them enough to keep their word on this then why are you even planning on playing. Please answer me. Why would you want to play a game you THINK they are going to destroy? I use to love league of legends, but it has gone so far away from what it once was I simply don't enjoy it nor do I trust Riot to fix it, so you know what I did? I stopped playing.
