BGs are broken

ilvl doesn't matter except on azerite gear.

Why do people keep spewing this nonsense that gear matters so much in PvP? It all scales up/down to make it more even and the advantage of gear is minimal because of this.
What’s with people thinking gear doesn’t matter? Every time I see someone with 70k hp they are demolished. In my last bg we had 5 guys under 80k hp I said before the match we had no chance and of course we got crushed. Gear matters a lot I always seek out fresh 120s for easy kills

This is what everyone wanted when they complained about gear making no difference in PvP, and templates being terrible. You guys wanted your "hurr durr durr" secondary stats, now power creep is a serious issue. This was predicted and told to you over and over, and you all just banged home the secondary stat argument till you got your way.

People wanted the ability to pick what secondary stats to stack. And understandably so. That kind of customization helps makes it feel like your character.

The easiest solution would have been to have a set level, where the gear you were wearing changed to...idk say 340. Functioning basically like timewalker does. That would allow people to gear with secondaries they wanted, but still play on even footing in random bgs. Or at least even gearwise.

Rated pvp should function like it does now because gear should matter in rated. Getting better gear should help you progress in rated, the same way it does in other competitive, push to the next level content.

With the fact that they can do this with timewalker, I don't know why they didn't find a middle ground using that technology in nonrated pvp. That kind of mechanic (that already exists) would deliver them the results they were trying for with ilvl scaling, which doesn't seem to work well in practice.

My lock was crushing it fresh 120. it's just a l2p issue.

Some people wanted this, I was against it at the start. Because it makes the game a 2nd job if you want to be competitive.
Don't try to change fundamental elements of an mmorpg play a different genre if you don't have the time

I have the time, but I play games to have fun.

I dont need to chase a carrot on a stick to give me the illusion of having fun.
Nor do I want [potential] fun ruined by turning it into a job.

Gear progression doesnt work in pvp like it does in pve.
Ladder system doesnt work because classes aren't remotely balanced.

Roleplay.

But I'm also not a fan of making PVP pure memorization.

role players are a tiny minority of the wow community. the pvp community (what remains of it) should not have to worry about their area of play revolving around role players' wishes. role players already get their own servers and shards so they don't have to worry about PVErs and PVPrs griefing their role play events.

stat customization has very little to do with role play, its mostly for optimal performance in pve, or in pvp finding some advantage over other people. finding an advantage over other people on what is supposed to be a balanced play field is effectively cheating. there's a reason turbochargers and superchargers are banned in nascar. also pvp isn't pure memorization, but knowing classes and predicting moves is part of the deal, if you just want to rush in and play your pve rotation hoping to win, you should not pvp.

there is also the fact that stat customization is an illusion, 99.98% of people are going to run whatever gear the sim/mr.robot/pawn tells them to run, or whatever has the highest ilvl. that last remaining 0.02% of players who stack a stat in a cheese build you will run into maybe once an expansion, they are annoying for 2 minutes before you figure out how to counter them.

The one that means i'm lazy because i'm not 370+?

careful now, some elitist with no life needs to feel good, you might burst his bubble by doing well without 370+

this literally had nothing to do with why everyone wanted templates gone.

sure it did, templates balanced the battlefield better than any other method in wow's history, better than resiliance, better than pvp power. you could just queue up and play, no need to worry about having enough of X stat or special pvp gear, just throw on your best ilvl and go have fun. every spec of every class was viable, and killing someone was determined by skill more than gear. the only reason someone could want that gone is either they can't adapt to the balance and want an advantage, or just pure ignorance about how the system worked.

some people did, and that choice is an illusion anyway, people pick whatever the sim tells them to pick and what works.

Rated pvp should function like it does now because gear should matter in rated.

if the point of pvp is to determine who is the most skilled (which it is), then gear should all be standardized and equal otherwise rating is meaningless. when gear matters over skill then a high rating just means you farmed high level PVE for the best gear, which often means buying runs. "ooh look at your high rating, everyone knows you're a low skill cheater who couldn't win on even grounds."

I love the "I have a family/job/etc/etc" argument as to why they dont have gear.

I work a full time job, go to the gym, cook my own food... The only difference between me and you is I dont have kids.

It wasn't an excuse, it was a response at being called lazy for being a random bger

I play randoms because thats what I enjoy.....pve content is boring to me and my erratic play times to do work well for rated....sure yolos but that requires wasting time getting a group when I could just be playing and extra map or 2. Plus rated groups tend to get pissy when you have to suddenly leave, as do raiders.

I only played about 8 hours last week. I got my mythic+ done, did enough games to get my pvp reward for the week, also did a majority of the world quests.

I do not believe you did all that on only 8 hours a week.. Just capping my conquest takes an hour a night

Meh when you win in 2's/3's it goes really fast.

A mythic+ takes 45 minutes TOPS if you have a decent group... A round of world quests is 20 minutes.

Revive and other monk things. Besides that ilvl doesn't matter as much for healers imo. What matters is how much damage your team is taking and how much the other team is locking you down.

See this is the thing "oh you heal so your evidence is invalid."

Wut?

It’s just one excuse among many.
I love it when i see horde 110k or under. I pursue and kill them when they feebly try to attack back. Makes my day really. I especially enjoy killing low geared disc. Single them out.

I mean, if you're trying to gear up using bgs, you're "doing it wrong" anyway.

Much more efficient methods of getting gear:

- Warfronts spam (sometimes the 340 gear warforges/titanforges)
- Mythic+ dungeon spam (especially!!)
- RBGs/Arena (if you're into that)
- Normal Uldir PUGs (easy to get into, and drops iLvL 355 gear)
- any and all World Bosses (chance at 355-370 gear)

If you play Horde it should be fairly easy to get the daily 105 conquest points via bgs, since most of the time Horde wins. If you're trying to farm battlegrounds conquest points as an Alliance, then yeah I can kind of see where the OP is coming from. But the point is, farming for better gear via battlegrounds is pretty inefficient compared to some of the other options I listed ^ above.

You what this keep being said and I spent my time gearing in pvp since pvp venders came out and that how I like to gear and should be able too keep gearing this way. People who keep say oh noes you doing it wrong should then start playing this game for me. As some one who pays my own account I should be able to gear and play how I like rather than running countless dungeon runs that turn up nothing for me for days or weeks on end. Pvp gear boom earn my points get the reward I know.

This how I feel as well.
I need to PVE to get gear to PVP?
That seems backwards and broken somehow.
PVP gear vendors need to make a comeback.

Azerite traits further increase "you must pve to be optimal".

There arent enough pvp variants to get the combination of traits you need on your gear.
Optimal for Bgs? You don’t need perfect traits.

Optimal: Best or most favorable...

Just because you can get by doesnt mean you arent at 100% of what your class is capable of.

Then do rated pvp. Even with a vendor, I doubt they would put bis traits on there.
