3v3 arena class/spec representation

Arenas
Been thinking about this for a bit.

If competitive pvp is assumed to be 1 healer and 2 dps, then clearly there will need to be 1 healer for every 2 dps....right? and healing specs aren't equally distributed across classes sooo.....

I took the time to do the math

Priest 13.89%
(Disc - 5.56%)
(Holy - 5.56%)
(Shadow - 2.78%)
Druid 11.11%
(Resto - 5.56%)
(Balance - 2.78%)
(Feral - 2.78%)
Shaman 11.11%
(Resto - 5.56%)
(Ele - 2.78%)
(Enhance - 2.78%)
Monk 8.33%
(Mistweaver - 5.56%)
(Windwalker - 2.78%
Paladin 8.33%
(Holy - 5.56%)
(Ret - 2.78%)
Warlock 8.33%
(Aff - 2.78%)
(Demon - 2.78%)
(Destro - 2.78%)
Mage 8.33%
(Frost - 2.78%)
(Arcane- 2.78%)
(Fire - 2.78%)
Hunter 8.33%
(BM - 2.78%)
(Survival - 2.78%)
(Marks - 2.78%)
Rogue 8.33%
(Sub - 2.78%)
(Outlaw - 2.78%)
(Sin - 2.78%)
Death Knight 5.56%
(Frost - 2.78%)
(Unholy - 2.78%)
Warrior 5.56%
(Arms - 2.78%)
(Fury - 2.78%)
Demon Hunter 2.78%
(Havoc - 2.78%)

=100.00%

inb4 I get bashed for being a priest. Disc is over-represented, shadow and holy under. not arguing, just stats.

if you make the argument that 3 dps, or dps/healer/tank or whatever should be viable, it changes the numbers of course. It's beyond me to guess what percentage of teams should be represented as such so I went with the simple 2 dps 1 healer. I'll do the math if anyone actually cares to see what it should be with a percentage of teams being other metas

food for thought
Ideal Actual Discrepancy
Priest 13.89% 14.20% 0.31%
Druid 11.11% 12.30% 1.19%
Shaman 11.11% 11.70% 0.59%
Monk 8.33% 5.30% -3.03%
Paladin 8.33% 10.70% 2.37%
Warlock 8.33% 2.67% -5.66%
Mage 8.33% 10.40% 2.07%
Hunter 8.33% 6.10% -2.23%
Rogue 8.33% 13.40% 5.07%
Death Knight 5.56% 0.90% -4.66%
Warrior 5.56% 8.70% 3.14%
Demon Hunter 2.78% 3.60% 0.82%

*Arena Junkies, All Classes/Specs, All Regions, Both Factions, 3v3, any rating
3 weakest classes:
1) Warlock
2) DK
3) Monk

3 strongest classes:
1) Rogue
2) Warrior
3) Paladin

3 Most Balanced:
1) Priest
2) Shaman
3) Demon Hunter

I think weakest and strongest come mostly as a surprise to nobody. I find "most balanced" a bit amusing given the general atmosphere of the forums though.

What is this even for? 1500+?

You literally just told us that people play arena. that's it.

This is like me posting a %% of pvers..... including LFG, normal, heroic, and mythic difficulty....

Okay, yeah people play the game dude, it happens

you clearly can't read. Or don't care to. Why make a stupid and irrelevant post in someone elses thread if you don't even know whats going on?

I'm actually impressed by how bold you are in your stupidity.

let me put it in terms the mathematically illiterate can understand:

If Blizzard is balancing arena off 3v3, then "equal" representation across classes does not mean the same percent across all those classes. Certain classes will have higher representation based on more viable (healer and dps) specs.

Once you adjust the numbers for the 3v3 meta, you get a better idea of the actual state of wow pvp balance
Ummm dh balanced? Are you ok?

I think the one aspect you still need to account for is the actual player population of a spec. If nobody is playing the spec, even if it were good it'd look bad relative to what it "should be". WW monk, for example, will likely never be over represented, because not enough people play WW monk in general.

This, not sure how you would get the numbers though. However in tournaments you have a much more controlled environment. Probably easiest to balance around those, which it seems is what blizzard is doing.

absolutely! I really wish I had those figures so I could try working them in

Arena Junkies is no longer being updated so you kind of wasted your time with those figures.
And there's no point to look at RBG/2x2 data as Blizzard already said that PVP is balanced around 3x3. Also, there's no point in getting data from people under a certain rating because you will catch casual players that are playing only for cap.

IMO, this is a more accurate picture of the current representation:
