There's already a thread about how Alex Afrasiabi (accidentally?) says she planned the Wrathgate, but there's lots of other surprising stuff in the article, so I figured I'd make a second thread for the rest of it. Some tidbits (all quotes are from Alex Afrasiabi):

***

"I've heard these discussions on the internet about 'she's going off the rails', but is she?"

***

"Any time we get a player base that's divided in their support for a character, I feel like we're doing our jobs. Any time it's one-sided to the point of 'this is clearly the right direction', it's not as interesting. That was really our goal with Sylvanas, to create enough plausible deniability in the actions she's committed where she can still have a fanbase, where she could still have people supporting her actions and saying, 'Well of course she's doing that for the Horde.'"

***

On the choice whether to support Sylvanas or Saurfang:
"Once you play a choice like that, you have to follow it through, so in subsequent quests that come out, you're going to be on the side you pick, and we'll see what comes of that, if you're right or wrong."

***

"Sylvanas' destiny is to be found out and discussed by the player base, but it would be dismissive to think she'll just go down as another raid boss, because she's a little bit more than that. Does that mean you will not fight her? Not necessarily true either. The reality is you can fight her every day of the week in Grommash Hold, in a raid, right now. But I do think there's a lot more to Sylvanas' story that hasn't been told yet."

***

Thoughts?
Honestly, I'm just losing respect for the BFA writers.

"We want everyone to hate character X"
"Have character X kick a dog then!"
"most people still like character X."
"Have them kick ALL THE DOGS!"
"We are so brilliant!"

ugh.
Excellent.

We, as the Horde, are world-class specialists in manufacturing of internal division and strife. I believe we could export this product to other stories so that they too may make their faction more interesting.

Might we not interest the Alliance in some our Horde specialty product?

...

Being not sarcastic for a moment, having them tell us there's a "right and wrong" choice really, really makes me narrow my eyes in suspicion. Did they not specifically state "we don't want anyone to feel like they chose the wrong faction" before this expansion?

Oh, wait, that was another lie, wasn't it?
Assuming she did orcestrate the Wrathgate everyone should want her torn apart.

i think they meant faction wise, they don't want you to feel like you made the wrong choice playing horde or alliance, and the right or wrong choice is about saurfang or sylvanas

i don't know what to believe anymore, they lie so often, for all i know that entire interview could have been one big lie

But they don't, they want more of her lol
Wrathgate had collateral damage, just like Lordaeron. Big surprise there
If one sides choice ends up being right, and the other wrong, that is really going to suck for everyone who picked incorrectly. Possibly even worse than not being given an option, tbh.
Sylvanas would have ate everyone baby murloc on Azeroth in order to get revenge on the LK. The most interesting thing is how she's even more a pro strategist.

Edit:
Dave spelled out her primary goal during Edge of Night

Right or Wrong

One side of the horde is wrong.
I wonder if it's going to be the side that burns children in trees or the side that has gotten 2 cinematics.

This is a total joke, they are just screwing with us at this point. And how !@#$ty is it going to feel for everyone backing sylvanas, or lets just humor them and say saurfang, and that side is wiped out? It's ok, yall just followed orders? It's ok, you thought saurfang's view of honor was the right thing to do?

So much for bringing the horde together.

You guys can go ahead and mark raid boss of the list. Alex thinks she's above raid boss status.

This is a great article thanks for posting it.
Good you know their going to follow up on the choice you end up making. And good to know Sylvanas isn't going down the path of a raid boss.

Quick "I dont normally use current event reference but ill make an exception" but that just show me what kind of people the Horde are. I am not even suprise how easy it could be considering it is happening all over the world(the sheeps of the world, following the Donald Trumps of the world to a proverbial cliff)

I'd stay way the hell away from that comparison, man.

My bet is we'll raid her (to give Alliance players the satisfaction of killing her) but she'll come back after death again somehow. So she'll be a raid boss, but not just a raid boss.

Oh please, I never like your posts but this struck a nerve. Just cuz people wanna roleplay with Sylvanas do not make them mass murders.

I have never used a gun nor will ever use a gun but I still kill people in call of duty. If you honestly can't separate game from reality then you have major issues my dude.

Honestly I think that's your problem. In every post. You hate the Horde ingame so you immediately hate the players. Get over yourself and seek help. It's a video game.

I wonder what the wrong choice is...

I used to look forward to expressing my loyalty to the Horde and Sylvanas, and their mission. I will now just choose her side out of spite towards Blizzard, without any joy. Just a dismayed thumbs down.

I was trying to be patient and optimistic, but I think I am joining the people who find the story distasteful.

Not enough to quit. But any sort of name changes, boosts, or even WC3 Reforged is off the table. I guess I wont get that Meat Wagon mount.

This reminds me of when OJ wrote "If I did it". Not in it's seriousness or subject matter - but in it's bold faced brazenness and flippant audacity.
How did she "orchestrate" the Wrathgate - aside from the fact that keeping a dreadlord as your second in command is basically just waiting for snow to fall in winter?

I might concede she learned some of what Varimathras and Putress were planning, and simply chose to do nothing. But even that is stupid.

Potentially losing her seat of power - and beconing even more dependant on the rest of the Horde.
Severly allienating the Alliance.
Weakening her forces just as the push to Icecrown was underway.
Exposing the blight - which then still under development, and in secrecy.

He hasn't started a war yet...
Keep your political opinions to yourself, this is not the place for them.

In the WoW universe, Sylvanas is a master strategist, in BtS the Alliance are consistently fawning over how Sylvanas is always one step ahead of them. I highly doubt she sharing here action or lack there of that lead to the Wrathgate.

Your sheep reference is about WoW characters right?
