What drives people to play Warrior?

Warrior
Hi, I've played warrior on and off since vanilla WoW. Sometimes it's been my main, other times not. Seems whenever I return to WoW, I pick it up and level it at least to max.

Now I'm not trying to be negative here, I'm just curious what the design intentions are behind warrior these days. Back in vanilla, warriors were killing machines. Paired with a paladin that could remove their one weakness of being snared/rooted, they decimated everything. Mana-gated classes ran out of mana, rogues had energy that had to regen, rage was plentiful and never-ending. A warrior kept alive was always a threat. It felt amazing when you found THAT healer. That was PvP, of course, which isn't my focus. It DID feel awesome, though. Warriors were also THE tanks. Everyone loved a good protection warrior in vanilla.

Nowadays, I struggle to see what vision they have for this class. With such a lack of utility, should we not be harder to kill or deal somewhat more damage than classes with much more valuable utility/CC? As tanks, should we have higher HP or just be utter walls compared to tanks with multiple cleanses, death prevention mechanics, pulls, CCs, self-heals, etc?

Is warrior just designed to be that one class people play because they don't WANT to look out for others? Intentional lack of utility so they CAN just focus on themselves? Is it just a class fantasy thing nowadays, with the reasons people playing it being that they like shouting and jumping around everywhere? Because utility and survival-wise I'm having a hard time seeing why warrior is comparable these days to other melees that offer more or tanks that are safer bets.

Like as a tank I'm on the verge of playing DK or monk because I feel I have so little control over my own survivability, but I love warrior and don't want to give it up. The 8.1 changes other than IP off the GCD don't seem like they're offering much, so that isn't helping.

Perhaps some other people can explain what makes this class so great to play still? Obviously people play it because I see a fair amount of warriors. Like if it's just "class fantasy", that's great. I love the warrior class fantasy. Class fantasy is also usually about feeling powerful or useful, though, which I do not.
I play warrior because it was my main in vanilla, and have always had a sweet spot in my heart. I dont like magic using classes, I dont like the class fantasy of dk or the monks. I like not needing some magical forces to do my bidding, I am a pissed off mf'er that gets in peoples faces. Youre absolutely right, we need more damage when we get to someone, we need to be very hard to kill. We need to be one of the best if not the very best tanks in the game, we were the original tanks. It should be a pain in the !@# to stop a warrior. I wouldnt even mind being kited like in the old days because when you finally get someone, they knew they messed up and it was game over. Unfortunately I havent had any time to play this expac much, I dont even have a 120, but when i get around to it, even if I only have 1 class at max, it will be a warrior. Just my opinion.

This is true! I do remember the slow march of death towards people as they'd frantically run out of usable CC/snares. Once you got to them, they were done for. Those were the glory days, though. Probably not the HEALTHIEST mechanic to be one and two shotting cloth wearers, but there were plenty of other "unfair" matchups in those days.
Tell me charge isn’t the most fun spell in the game.
I'm illiterate, so it fits my real life to my class fantasy
It's just the play style I like. Relatively tanky, fast paced combat, solid damage, a little bit of utility. When I picked up WoW in like '05 or '06 I started an orc shaman and it was kind of cool but I wasn't getting that into the game. Then a new wave of servers went online and a buddy and I rerolled level 1's on the fresh server. I picked a warrior and it clicked instantly. I don't know if there is much more of a reason than that. It's just the class that clicked for me. I raided on a dwarf hunter in BC, and while it was fun, I went back to my warrior for WotLK and he's been my main ever since.
Warriors have bigger balls than any other class in the game.
I die on my Warrior more than any class in the game, both in PVE & PVP.

Knowing I'm probably gonna die soon is exciting.

This is sooooo true. Salute brother.
Same for me, this toon was my first one made back in ‘04. I will always have a spot in my heart for the warrior class, no matter the changes made, even when warriors are at their worst, I play and adapt. Even though I now almost have played all classes to 100+ none have ever captivated like my warrior has. I would die a thousand times and keep pushing on.
Wait i thought i was a mage
Your point are exacrly why i discided not to main my rece y boosted warr as my main in bfa. Warr is just lacking. Everything they bring others can do and imho in more fun ways. The main main thing with warr gameplay is how all in it in. Its very all in but lacks the tools to survive such a playstyle. To me its just to much of a one trick pony. Which sucks cause i love the theme of SR and fighting with a staff.

dont think id even put it in the top 10 tbh
tbh I never enjoyed playing a warrior. I always play high crit/ high dex classes aka rogues and archers and all that !@#$.

guild wars 2 changed me. It has probably the best iteration of a warrior in any game ive ever played. True weapon master, from rifle and bow to axe and mace.

Since then I enjoy the in your face style of warriors, but its not so much being a warrior, I just like high burst high mobility classes for the most part. War is bae
I play this class hoping it gives me motivation to work out irl.

Name one spell that is even half as good.

I’ll wait.

For a thousand years because there isn’t one.

/charge
I always had a fascination for melee weapons, and under the warrior description back in the day it said they could use every weapon but wands.

In short: I like weapons.
Like how chunky dwarves look in plate. An angry ball of metal. Love dwarf warrior fantasy. Don’t care for pally or DK.

Also along with rogue & hunter they seem the most versatile story-wise. Paladins using void, warlocks helping Naaru... specialist classes in this game often don’t seem to make sense with a lot of the things we end up doing.

Not so much an answer gameplay-wise I guess. Meh. Though in that regard I guess it’s how straightforward they are to play. Just wish plate felt like plate when I get hit.
I love warrior mogs, also the feeling u get when u execute those fukin rogues, I love that, class needs more damage and self sustain for me
love using shields. either defense or slamming faces
