Mac Technical Support
Hi, i have a new mac and i was wondering how you can minimize wow when your are playing to open other windows or open itunes so i can listen to music while im playing. thankyou
you can press Command tab to tab through windows, or you can press the yellow button to minimise the current window
this command M thing isnt working. idk why
Hi Palywn,

What happens when you press it?

Also, since this command is a universal shortcut, it should work in other Applications. What happens when you try it in another Application?

nothing happens at all. it used to work, but i started to log on using curse client. it works fine with other applications
Thanks Palyown for the additional information.

So, if this only happens using that Application to launch the game, what happens when you launch it normally? Using a 3rd party Application to launch the game may break some functionality, as this is not a normal way of launching it.

Try using the WoW icon on your Dock, or go into /Applications/World of Warcraft and use the World of Warcraft Launcher to start your game.

Does it work this way?

yes. but i it keeps telling me that i need to install a patch. once i do, and log in, it still says that i need to install a patch.
Sounds like there is a permissions issues then preventing you from doing this. Let's try a few things to address this issue.

First make sure all applications are closed. Then do the following:

Repair Permissions via Disk Utility
    1. Navigate to /Applications/Utilities/ and open Disk Utility
    2. Select the hard drive the game is installed on
    3. Select the First Aid option
    4. Click on the Repair Disk Permissions button

Reset the permissions on your World of Warcraft folder:
    1. Select the World of Warcraft folder
    2. Press Command + I
    3. In the Info box, go to the Sharing & Permissions section and click on the lock and unlock it, entering your admin password when prompted.
    4. Make sure you have Read & Write permissions
    5. Click on the Burst icon (cog wheel) and select Apply to enclosed items

Then run the WoW Launcher (do not open it through the curse client). Wait until all updates are applied, and the launcher states "World of Warcraft is up to date" by the play button.

After that attempt to login and play.

didnt work. still says need patching
Thanks.

This message only appears when you bypass the launcher, and open WoW directly.

Just making sure, you are opening the Launcher and hitting play, correct? Let me know if this is not the case.

im going through the launcher
Thanks for confirming. My only other thought is that something is still preventing the Launcher from updating.

So, this might be another program interfering. Let's try opening and updating the Launcher via Safe Mode.

Starting up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot)
    1. Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    2. Press the power button.
    3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
    4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear and a gray bar).

Once you are in Safe Mode, launch the launcher and let it update to where it states "World of Warcraft is up to date". (Do not attempt to login, since in Safe Mode, drivers for your Mac may be disabled, and will be unable to render the game.)

Once that is complete, then restart your Mac and try opening the Launcher and then play.

curse client doesn't do anything special with wow, it just launches it through normal means. So that'd be irrelevent to problems.
it didnt install any patch. it says wow is up to date
omegal i still cant minimize wow when i use curse so it probably is the problem
Strange that it's still happening.

Can you try to create a new administrator account on your Mac and see if it helps?

Lion

Leopard & Snow Leopard
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html

Log into the new user account and run the launcher from there and attempt to log in.

fixed it. turns out i just needed to do command+tab+M.
are you trying to make it windowed and change programs at the same time? instead of two steps? that is a non existant command but would probably work, cause it'd switch it to windowed mode and swap programs. while in windowed mode technically minimize is the yellow circle though, not command-tab, that doesn't hide the wow window just switch to a diff open app. but command-m is a keybinding that can't really be overrided unless you swapped command/control keys but that isn't until 4.3. or perhaps some other third party software that's binding command differently.
command tab M
