I assure you my friend, it does happen.

Seriously? O.O

In December my wife had someone at her work complain about the Christmas tree (a miniature one, mind you) that was in the day care room. The woman, a Jew, apparently says they're against it because when you have one, you're worshiping it like a pagan.....or some such nonsense.

So yeah....seriously. lol
It has been censored by SOPA.

The news article isn't an assumption. Neither is the reality that "political correctness" is a bane to societies which nurture it.

Suicide rates go down during the holidays. Thats a fact. The assumption of them rising is an example of the corrolation fallacy that people fall for.

And Political correctness isn't a bane. Its just some edict demanding people to be decent and thoughtful.

The bane is the offensive butts who hold it up as a shield to deter criticisms from their dead baby jokes.
(too lazy to go back and quote stuff)

China is the largest economy because outsourcing to them and India is far cheaper because they don't have unions to say the few cents they make an hour is unjust.

As the world progresses further into the modern era, I personally find it sickening that discrimination is still happening. Whether it be based on ethnicity/skin color/sexual identity/gender/etc, it's, quite honestly, deplorable that it still occurs.

I try to follow the progression/regression of these events as they happen as best I can. I'd like to think I'm well educated on these matters, but I know that there are people far more qualified on the subjects... and I also severely doubt any of those people exist on these forums, and, even if they did, would probably not voice their opinions.

I've lived almost my whole life in a backwater area of Pennsylvania. If anything, my beliefs set me apart from most people, as they weren't in the racist/homophobic mindset. I've seen far too many people in my life who believe that anyone who isn't white/straight shouldn't be allowed to mingle with "normal" people. It's disgusting. I've seen fanatical religious types who think anyone who isn't straight should be separated from society, and I've seen tolerance and understanding on levels that I believe religions should show towards all peoples.

I won't be long winded here (even though I probably am), but I will say this. At the end of the day, you can debate and shout and work yourself up into a lather over what you perceive to be "right", but for those set in their own ways, you might as well save your breath.

"You may as well be 10 minutes back in time for all the chance you'll change your mind."

Change is not automatic. It is unlikely anyone will wake up one day and think the other camp of thought is correct. Change is a thing that occurs not over hours or even days, but over years and generations. We look back and can't understand how slavery was around for so long. One day, maybe the same thing will be said of this kind of intolerance.

While I have no illusions about convincing the bigoted, social change is not accomplished through inaction.
A phobia is a fear.

Simplistically yes, but phobia also relates to an irrational hatred or dislike towards something/someone. It isn't just about being scared of something.

I dislike Cat's because they're bad pets.....do I have Ailurophobia?

Never said it was though inactivity. But in recent years we have been striving towards slowly changing it, with laws being put in place to protect children from being bullied in school based on sexual identity, changed laws so people can't be fired based on it, and even set up so people of the same gender can get married. (I don't think religion/government should be able to stop them anyways... but discussion for a different time.)

Social change is happening. Slowly, but it's happening.

It's not the word so much as how the community uses it.

Wow, I can remember the days when people weren't such wimps, where every little idea that they personally didn't agree with, didn't offend them.

I too remember the days when being anything other than a straight, white, male protestant was an open ticket to be treated like the slimey dog turd on the bottom of your shoe.

I'm actually really happy that we're moving past that era.
So have we come to the conclusion that "male" and "female" should also be censored?
The Chinese school system sucks and there going to be paying too much in care for their elderly in the future.

I just want to lay that out. No country gets the perfect medal.

Disliking something isn't the same thing as hating something irrationally.

You make a valid point.

But to be honest... do we really have to sacrifice individualism, free thought, free choice for acceptance of race/sexual preference/religion?

Yes. And now people who have an XY chromosome and male genitalia who believe they are actually female and / or vice versa are "enlightened". How exciting... =D

P.s. Homosexuality was once "scientifically" considered certifiable and a grace mental illness but psychologists were then pressured by homosexual lobbyists to remove it from the DSM.

You really need to stop reading FoF propaganda. Homosexuality was removed from the DSM because it didn't fit several of the mandatory criteria for it to be there.

Those days were an unnecessary extreme, and these days that we live in now are on the opposite extreme. Both have their own flavor of intolerance.

So what exactly do you stand to lose if people are free to live life happily rather than in abject misery? Social justice is not a zero-sum game. Your choices become no less valid by the validation of others'.

I always though acceptance was mostly "dont be a dip to other people."

I mean, I was able to accept vegetarians without comprimising my beliefs and idividualism. Why not the transgender?
