EDIT: Disabling sound altogether got rid of the problem, or at least vastly improved upon it.

Do you know the particular manufacturer for the 7900? Is it overclocked?

I don't know the particular manufacturer, no. I got the majority of the components for this computer second-hand. The card actually freaks out a little with full screen apps at the regular clock settings, so I have it very slightly underclocked. The particular drivers and clock settings that I've been using have worked for the entire life of the Cataclysm expansion, until Tuesday's client patch.

I have downloaded the new Nvidia drivers, but have not installed them yet.
I am having the same problem, my framerate is down to 25-25 is any major city (from 60), and it is choppy. I've deleted the cache WTF and interface folders, run the repar and updated my video drivers, gotten rid of add ons, decreased graphics etc.
There are several other front page threads about this.

I'm going to have to comment on this.... I've had the same problem after this small patch this past Tuesday.... I'm not on an ideal computer either, but before the shutdown / patch etc. my system was running as normal, nothing out of the ordinary. Now when an encounter starts (whether it be pvp or a raid, even trash) my frames drop down to 3 and below.

Ive updated my computer's software, gpu, addons, even turned off every addon I have to see if the issue would be fixed; and the end result, still having the same issues.

I'm having the same problem and I'm running with an ATI HD 6970... so not just Nvidia
You and I are running the exact same video card and having the exact same problem. It seems whatever this problem is it's definitely effecting Nvidia cards. I'm one of several people in my guild with this problem and we all have Nvidia cards.

In answer to the post above it's not an add on problem. I've deleted the cache, WTF and Interface folders, run the repair, updated my video drivers and played the game with no add ons at all with my graphic settings set low. The problem still persists. Something is screwed up in the patch.

I'm running on Win-XP SP3.
EDIT: 9600gt nvidia with it's latest driver.
I know i don't have the best setup, but i have never had an issue with my system. I only play on this desktop, not up to date, but after Tuesday patch, I have noticed my FPS drop while all graphics setting have not changed. In LFR and Dungeons I now run 1 to 4 FPS. Now I barely get 25 to 30 FPS in open world when it was higher in the 40s to high 50s.Monday night when I ran LFR on two other toons, I have FPS in LFR around 30 to 40, during boss fights a drop to 15 to 20. But now it has been horrible. This is not a top of the line pc at all. just something I had that I knew was still playing wow Monday night with no FPS issues at all.

I ran my dxdiag and an posting it here for a low end machine.

Then, when I tried to log in my chars, the loading time was horrible, especially for a char that was in Dalaran, that took at least a half hour and I had that 'this will take a while because you haven't played this race before' message.

After I got her logged in, she froze every few steps for a while, and the map wouldn't come up and all kinds of fun things. That seemed to resolve and then I tried to take her to another zone. When I got there, it all started again, I even hit zone walls that I couldn't get through until I guess t hings cached up. I mean invisible zone walls. It was really weird.

So I tried a char that was in SW, and it was slowish but playable til I tried to take the boat to Northrend. I finally quit out after a while because I was stuck loading. I did do 2 dungeons with the first char with minimal issues (except a random disconnect that *never* happens usually).

Everything was *fine* Monday. I'm having a really hard time believing there's something wrong with my computer. Also, I loaded up LOTRO, which is much more video demanding than WoW usually, and it ran fine. Here's my info:

edit: Oh yeah, I also completely removed my WTF and Addon folders with no change. I ran those dungeons running Recount also and as I said, I had few issues.

For those of you who have nVidia cards and have not already done so please ensure you're running the latest drivers which are 295.73 written in the dxdiag as

03/01/2012 05:07 PMPosted by Shinigamï
Driver Version: 6.14.0012.9573 (English)

for nVidia cards to determine the driver version look at the last 5 numbers in that line

2.9573
and shift the decimal place over 2 spaces to the RIGHT.
295.73
Anyone with nVidia cards can now use this formula to figure out their driver version. If you have an nVidia card and now realize that you're out of date follow my directions below, test, and ONLY if you still have problems come back here and post. Most people I have seen are up to date but for those who aren't:

Driver Clean Upgrade or Reinstall Windows Vista/7

1.)Grab Driver Sweeper from:
http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/

and pick the most recent version (highest number), download and install.

2.)Download the most recent driver that corresponds to your version of Windows:
Desktops-32 bit Vista/7: http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/41697
Laptops/Notebooks-32 bit Vista/7: http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/41702

Desktops-64 bit Vista/7: http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/41694
Laptops/Notebooks-64 bit Vista/7: http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/41704

3.) Launch Driver Sweeper and select the boxes next to
NVIDIA PhysX
NVIDIA Display
and let it run and reboot if necessary.

4.) Run the NVIDIA Driver Installer that you downloaded
Choose the custom install option and pick just the driver - do NOT install the updater or the 3d driver as doing so WILL cause OTHER crashes

5.) Reboot as necessary.

Blah. I was so ready, even looking forward to coming here and admitting I was a moron because updating my driver fixed everything... but alas ... it was not to be. All the same things are happening. I knew my driver was out of date but updating my drivers terrifies me. But I did it for the sake of the cause! Please don't ask me to mess with my router or modem :(

I really think though that this is patch related. Its like the game is trying to reload everything. I'm reminded of the days of Southshore vs Tarren Mill, where you ran all over unflagged to get it all cached, and *then* flagged so you wouldn't die from lag, only Horde.

I have that little circle at the top of the screen constantly, that says loading important/core game data.

It's not the driver. I had the problem before and after updating to the latest nvidia driver.

Since my post has already been bumped off the front page in just a couple of hours, I will list my info here as well......running an 8600gt on xp sp3

ok so i know my comp isnt capable of launching missles or anything. but i usually get about 15-20fps on the lowest settings im ok with this. after tuesdays "maintanance" ive been getting 5-8 fps in stormwind. literally i kid you not 0fps in the raid finder and unbelievably 60 FPS in the stowmwind stockades instance. i never get 60 fps. but inside stockades. somehow. heres a screenshot of the blackhorn fight in the raid finder. note my 0 frames per second. was probably like a frame every 2 seconds. http://imageshack.us/f/818/0fpsproof.jpg/ my resub is also happening in 3 days. if its not fixed. you may lose 15$ a month from me.
Blizzard needs to do research on this issue instead of their tech's replying back and telling everyone to update drivers, etc.
The support forums are full of people complaining about low fps. many of the postings, the user states that they have installed the latest drivers.

Let me tell you what I have done.
First off, My computer is home built, I build all of my systems, have been doing so for many years.
I have a decent video card, not super high-end, but not a budget card either.
Its PNY's Nvidia GS250. 1GB RAM on card.

When playing Wow. I can be in Org, and Frame rates normally sit around 45fps. Outside of Org, flying around on a mount, I often see my Frame rates anywhere from 70 to a bit over 100fps.

When it comes to raiding, My frame rates normally drop down to 7fps, and several times, system seems like it has locked up, Hover mouse cursor over menu, and is shows 1fps.
And that is with all graphic settings at low.
I have lowered my resolution to a point where screen is pixelated. Disabled all addons, Have deleted my WTF folder..Updated drivers, Ran System Diagnostics tools (Which have found nothing wrong with my system). I even took my system down and used compressed air to make sure there was no dust causing heat issues. I keep my Drives Defragmented, Move my cache to another drive to increase writes. Have disabled all background running programs.
I have seen some topics where people are saying to turn sound off, Which is BS if thats what it takes to get this working properly. I've got music and un-needed sounds already turned off, But I like to have my raid warnings audible as well as visual.
The only cure I've found that makes the game somewhat playable on a raid situation is to have camera set at max distance. Still have low frame rates, But now as bad as when the camera is closer to the character. And when I say max distance, I do mean Max, a simple click forward on camera view and frames drastically drop again..
Blizzard needs to do some research on their end....Get this problem fixed before they lose a large percentage of their customers.
There probally is a issue for people that have lower end computers but blizz wont never will and never have admit it is there fault.Hopefully this will be fixed next tuesday otherwise people with lower end computers will just stop playing. There is not enough content in my opinion to keep people coming bak if they cant do LFR with a decent fps.Im also having this problem,it only started since Tuesday just like everyone here.im not going to link stats and so forth because its just a way for blizz staff to pretend they are trying to help u when clearlly they dont care as most people in this day of age have semi decent computers.Tough luck in there eyes.Time to upgrade.... computer parts arnt that expensive tbh but i aint wasting my HARD earned cash for a game.Maybe in time to come but well see.Goodluck guys X fingers something happens....
This is also occurring on HIGHER END graphics cards as well so the Blues and forum regulars (such as myself) are encouraging everyone to have the latest drivers so that a driver problem can be ruled out.

Since most of the people do in fact have up to date drivers, we can then figure out what other hardware/software they have in common and the Blues can relay to the Devs what to fix (if absolutely necessary).

try disabling in game sound in options menu. Having all the same issues as everyone else with a new Radeon HD 6670.

Did all the fixes and saw very minimal improvement till i tried the above, then my fps in BG's and Dungeon battles maintained consistent 30fps or better versus the 1-4 fps since patch

Ok, I tried the sound thing and sound or no sound, Northrend is a problem. Turning off the sound did seem to loosen things up a little for places I've already been to since this little adventure started. But then I tried flying from I think Borean to the Fjord(where I hadn't been yet) and the game crashed. And then I tried to relog that character in and the game froze up.

Going somewhere new on a vanilla continent(well I didnt try Kalimdor) or Outland is dicey but it seems to catch up a little faster there.

I dunno, these are just my observations.
As something of an update, I tried disabling sound as recommended in another thread (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/4079877615). I hopped in LFR and saw a large improvement. I can't say for sure that it'll carry over to regular/heroic 25m raids, but certainly a large improvement.

I still haven't installed those updated drivers. I'll probably dink around with that Friday, but from the sound of it, that won't really change the situation.
Question:

All those who posted nvidia errors. Are you guys all on 64 bit client or 32? From looks of it, pretty much identical.

Don't forget to also look on the nvidia forum. Sometimes there is a quick fix. I'm sure they are seeing and hearing same issues as here. Ati forum for ati users.
