How are Death Knights treated nowadays?

World’s End Tavern: Role-play and Fan Fiction
What is the general attitude the societies of Azeroth hold toward Death Knights? I imagine it'd be something similar to Geralt from The Witcher, where while not trusted for what you are, you are still accepted in society so long as you don't do anything illegal.

Does this sound about right?
Death Knights are stigmatized, most common folk still have a natural fear to them as well as a natural hatred of them that was built up over a long period of time. These types of things do not go away overnight, nor does it help that they are a reminder of what everyone lost during that conflict.

Add on to that fact that to survive Death Knights must inflict pain and suffering to keep themselves sane, this again stigmatizes them from normal society and makes them even more hated. So to answer your question think of Death Knights much like African Americans between 1865 and the 1960s. Where they would be blamed, ostricized and so forth.

While certain groups would find them great soldiers and the military uses them for that very purpose they are still hated and ostricized.

So that proclamation of the King when the Death Knight meets him holds no weight?

Analogy time!

President Lincoln proclaimed all Blacks are free.

Blacks discriminated against and segregated from normal society.

Ring any bells?

That's what happens to the Death Knights they aren't out right attacked but they are glared at, people refuse to serve them and people avoid them.

Quite simple.

Put yourself in the shoes of the typical Azeroth citizen.

You've learned to fear the Scourge, and the death knights within it's ranks, for they run around massacring everyone and everything in sight.

Then you get told by your king that 'it's ok guys, they swapped sides now.'

Would you suddenly be all smiles and friendly around them? Or would you watch them VERY carefully and likely not be at all friendly?
