Sky Admiral Rogers is gonna get fired.

Story Forum
I was perplexed and amused when early on in Jade forest she takes the entire Alliance military force and is like "I'm out suckers! Good luck finding Anduin! HA!"

Sky Admiral Rogers says: I've been ordered back to the main battlegroup to provide carrier escort. The full might of the Alliance navy will arrive in two months' time.
Admiral Taylor says: What am I suppose to do until then? I've got no men! We don't know where the Horde are, or how many we're dealing with!
Sky Admiral Rogers says: Put on your big boy pants, Taylor. I will leave the SI:7 officers with you. I suggest a scouting mission.
Sky Admiral Rogers says: Maybe you can recruit some of the locals. I'll leave the situation here in your capable hands.

To make it worse, this is the original order he gave:

"By order of King Wrynn, this land is to be scoured in all haste until the White Pawn is found and returned to safety. No expense is to be spared in this effort, including - if necessary - the blood of any subjects who find themselves serving in this foreign land. The families of any such heroes lost in this noble endeavor will be well cared for, and the one who secures the asset may name his reward."

I can only imagine how the meeting on her return went.

Rogers: Sir, I'm back with the entire Alliance military force you sent looking for your son!
Wrynn: You found him!
Rogers: No, sir, but we found tons of horde.
Wrynn: But my son...
Rogers: Don't worry sir, I left 6 people to look for him!
Or maybe the part where she was ordered back takes precedence over the previous orders.
She didn't say she was going back to Stormwind, just the main battlegroup, the mass of Alliance navy that's headed to Pandaria. Note that she was also ordered to do this.

Hilariously enough we capture him probably not long after that!

She is getting court marshaled for that.

How would she get court marshalled, if she was ordered back to the fleet/Stormwind?
Rogers is the best Alliance character since Varian himself.

They're not going to get rid of her.
Threeslotbag, could you actually apply a bit of common sense with your posts instead of attempting to raise suspicions about things that don't hold much meaning than what they really let on?

You're almost making Crappytank look like a chump.
She'll be coming back in two months, Rogers is escorting the rest of the fleet.

They're definitely going to get rid of her. Can't have her upstage the High King of the Alliance!

Too bad he escapes, runs off to Karasang Wilds, then to Kun-Lai to convince the White Tiger to open the gates to the Vale, allowing refugees and the factions to move in as a base of operations.
Don't count Rogers up just because of her importance

Look what happened to Bolvar

More like, we should count her up because of how badly we need characters like her.
I somehow doubt the King of the Alliance will accept "but I had other orders" as an excuse when the last living member of his family is MIA in foreign, hostile territory.
What people are forgetting is that in the military you can't just tell your superior officers where to shove their orders whilst you do something else. Regardless of how right you feel the action you are taking is.

In an unknown land, when you know there are enemies in the area... the first thing you do is not draw attention to the fact you are looking for someone or something. That is a large tip off to the other side. That the Horde capture Anduin anyway is neither here or there.

Not only that, but leaving your back wide open to being attacked in a strange land is also foolish, you're not going to get anyone back by being reckless.

From the small amount of detail you've posted OP, it just seems like solid military strategy. Build up a base of operations, scout out the land THEN decide what to do and how to do it.

The orders probably came from Varian. While the exact Alliance military structure is a little ambiguous when it comes to ranks like "Sky-Admiral", I can't imagine there being too many people between her and Varian.

Once Varian realized the Horde was preparing to outright conquer Pandaria, he realized that the Skyfire, which is the closest thing the Alliance has to a superweapon, would be needed in the Alliance's main push inland.

If she didn't find Anduin then she didn't find him. Varian isn't gonna blame her, he's just going to be angry at the situation. He'd probably be more pissed if she didn't have people still looking for him.
BTW, it's "court-martialled". Men with stars, six-shooters and western accents are not necessary to the proceedings.
Let's not forget, too, that she left a team of SI:7 operatives and the surviving naval personnel to continue the search in conjunction with the cooperative natives. The presence of the great big flying aircraft carrier might help in terms of aerial observation, but it also makes it very plain that there's something very important to the Alliance in the region.
/facepalm
I can't believe I forgot the most important part of the mission.

Varian says he'll send a small elite force to secure Pandaria and find his son, he never intended to have Rogers search for Anduin.

The "small, elite force" is supposed to be the player and the SI:7 agents.

How did I forget that?
