Army of the Dead vs. Stampede

Question is, why cant we use Army of the Dead in Arenas, however Hunters can use Stampede?
because army of the dead is not an instant cast.
Because the cooldown is 10 minutes.
Because giving a small dps boost to a melee class with no control would be OP.

However giving a ranged class with some of the games best control, like hunter, a massive and sustained dps boost which can be used in conjunction with some excellent defensive cd's is not
Because spell restrictions seem to be arbitrarily based on cooldown time and not power. If AOTD was a 5 minute cooldown yet twice as powerful you'd be able to use it in arenas.
Army does a lot more damage than Stampede, as well.

But it also costs a lot more, can be kicked providing a lock out, and the ghouls are super easy to kill.

@OP: Its one of our many skills that are stuck in wrath level development.
Because it use to be extremely OP then Blizz nerfed it and forgot to put it back in.
Take heart, we can use army in the dread expanse but a hunter can't use stampede or it lags the entire raid to the point of wiping.
Army does more damage than stampede, understandably with twice the cooldown time, however, stampede was designed to be a 10 minute CD with higher damage output, it was changed to 5 minutes just before release, which was a mistake that turned Hunters into gods in arenas.

AotD is a 10 minute cooldown. There, question answered. That aside, we would have to cast it anyways and it takes one of every rune. Seeing as dks are usually the target to go on, you would get interrupted every time and be locked out of every school for that time period. Even further, army just attacks whatever, so it would be more of a nuisance breaking partners' cc than helping with its mediocre damage.

Please quit making these threads.
Because Army in Arenas wouldn't help DKs all that much anyway. It's a bit of a pointless crusade, this.

Though, please, drop the "Army does more damage!" nonsense. Stampede isn't just about damage from the pets. People aren't dying in a Stampede just because of Stampede damage. Stampede increases the hunter's overall damage (as in - both stampede damage and damage from the hunter and the hunter's main pet), the hunter's effectiveness, and the hunter's ability to stay on target or peel in ways Army doesn't even approach.

When the the little skeleton starts disarming people, the bigger lumpy skeleton starts Mortal Striking them, the little geist starts increasing the magic damage they take by 8%, the little saronite-spike ghoul gives us a Blessing of Might (even if we're not partnered with a Paladin) and casts a heal on us, and the little Festergut starts rooting people and also giving us Fort, then we can talk.

People seriously need to stop thinking Stampede is just damage. Look into what pets hunters set up for their stampede and why. They don't just auto-attack. They provide peels along with buffs or debuffs that the Hunter's team wouldn't otherwise have. People are dying during stampede - and stampede is a ridiculous ability - but if we go on saying it's just because of the damage of those pets, Hunters - and Devs - will just keep responding with "Nuh uh, it's not, they don't do THAT much damage on their own!"
Why can't army be used in arena and stampede can?

Why can pallies/warriors use shields but dk/druid/monks can't?
Why can hunters name their pets, but warlocks can't?

The list can go on forever, but here is the simple answer.

Because blizzard said so.

Army serves it's purpose as a decent sustained damage cooldown or a tank cd(depending on how you use it), however it would serve almost no use in arena as the ghouls would hit for almost nothing, if army provided more burst but lasted say half as long?
I could see people wondering.
