is chromebook viable?

Games, Gaming and Hardware
just looking to replace my 8 year old dell dimension 3000 (stock) with a chromebook. anyone here know if i would be able to rain finally? i did some research but still dont know if the graphics card would be good enough for, say, lfr?

currently i am completely unable to set foot in any raid. theres alot of fire i cant see on the ground (@ all times), & my graphics settings are quite low. i stick to arenas mostly, where the instance is small enough that my little old lady computer can handle it.

also my ethernet connection is fairly fast, my gf can raid on her macbook pro & shes on our wifi network, so im led to assume that my dell simply cant handle the goings-on in a raid environment. my fps drops to decimal levels & apparently i do not have pixel shader 2.0 lol.

tldr: anyone use a chromebook able to raid? how are your graphics settings?

many thanks ^.^
Chromebooks use Chrome OS which is not supported to play the game.

What's your budget?

wait... seriously? i cant buy a $250 laptop & play wow on it?

>:(
budget is as low as possible honestly, im splitting the cost with my roommate & were a couple broke mofos lol. im checkin that link out now
Well, there are $299 laptops but you probably would only get 10 or so FPS on lowest settings.

How much are you willing to spend at most?

The laptop I linked is best for the price if you are able to spend that much.
ill do my best to save up but 10fps is infinitely better than .2fps, from where im standing i wouldnt think that 10 was even low lol. id like... be able to see things happening as they were actually happening, totally alien concept haha.

thanks a ton for the info though

Not as good as the one I linked first and refurbished but still a whole lot better than your current lol.

Good luck

if that will run 10fps in a 25man lfr then its light years ahead & well worth the bucks. thanks again!
Opps I'm sorry, didn't realize your Dell was a desktop till now :(. If that's the case and you have a monitor, you're better off getting this:

Chrome books are not gaming systems. They're fine systems but they are just not designed to be gaming or really even high end performance systems.
You can get the Acer Chromebook - it has a sandy bridge celeron - install Linux on it - and run WoW through Wine. I wouldn't recommend it though. Get the cheapest AMD A-series laptop you can find.

Here's how to put Linux on the Acer Chromebook: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2012/12/how-to-install-ubuntu-on-acers-199-c7-chromebook/

For $380, do this: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-K55N-DS81-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00B7K11MI/ref=sr_1_9?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1369947962&sr=1-9&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=ur2&tag=shopamd-20

It seems he has a monitor so a laptop wouldn't be that good of a choice I believe if he doesn't mind another desktop. I think the refurbished HP I linked would be best if he wants a desktop.
yeah id honestly pref a desktop the only reason i was lookin at the chromebook was because of its price.

price is the biiggest factor here though, idc what i is as long as its cheap & i can raid with decent graphics settings that allow me to at least see everything i need to see.
Chromebooks do not have video cards so the performance will never be good for games, you can get a decent desktop for 600-1000$ especially if you already have the monitor speakers, keyboard mouse etc...

You're totally right, sorry. I didn't read closely enough and was under the impression he wanted a laptop. Either way, the AMD A-series seems to be the solution here.
