D3D11 Alt-Tab Issue

Technical Support
When I have D3D11 enabled and I alt-tab, WoW sort of freezes on my desktop and you can see the taskbar over it. I can't access my desktop and when I minimize some other window, WoW tabs back in. Over time, if I tab in and out a lot, the game crashes.

Here's an SS so you can see what I mean.

I've been able to reproduce this on my Intel GMA X3100 laptop and Radeon 5970 desktop. If I'm not mistaken, Blizzard has acknowledged this issue and plans to fix it.
Try running the client in Windowed Fullscreen.
It took care of the issue for me.

Please note that windowed mode can and likely will lower your performance. Fullscreen D3D9 will probably give better performance than windowed D3D11.
I forgot to mention, my graphics card is a Gigabyte GTX 460 1 GB, with the latest drivers.
It's a known issue but it's also happening on some of the DirectX 11 samples that we're working with. It's best to use Windowed (Full Screen) for now.
You can make a macro that sort of looks like this:

Full Screen
/console gxwindow 0
/console gxrestart

Windowed mode
/console gxwindow 1
/console gxmaximize 1 <----- if you want it in Windowed maximize mode.
/console gxrestart
This will toggle between full screen and window.
/script SetCVar("gxWindow",1-GetCVar("gxWindow")) RestartGx()
Still occurring with 4.0.3a.

This problem will probably be around for a while. This seems to be a rather common problem with any game using the DirectX 11 API. I'm sure it's going to take a bit of work to fix it. Until then, there are workarounds like windowed mode, toggle macros, and just sticking with D3D9.

That's unfortunate. I get so much better performance with DX11.
Fixed, thank you!
is there any way to reverse the issues with directx11? ive gone back to directx 9 but my buttons are still screwed up. i tried removing all the keybinding folders in my config folder but that didnt help. so far its my caps lock, num lock, and window button that are affected.
I figured out that the current image on your screen will 'freeze' but you can use the buttons in the task bar to go online or change graphics, etc. I don't see my desktop picture when I alt tab/ use windows button
This happends in DX9 or DX11. Not sure how changing to DX9 is a workaround.
No it doesn't. :P
And now in 4.1.0, both DX9 and DX11 can alt+tab properly. There's a new bug where DX11 full screen mode will not lock the cursor on itself on a multimonitor setup.
