If you experience problems with the Blizzard Downloader such as error messages or stalled installation progress, follow the steps for your operating system below.

Windows

  1. The installer needs administrator permission to update the files on your computer. Be sure to use an administrator account and run the installer as an administrator.
  2. If you experience connectivity issues, try optimizing your internet connection.
  3. Programs running in the background on your computer can interfere with installation. Close any running background applications and try again.
  4. Security software can interfere with the Blizzard Downloader. Try disabling or temporarily uninstalling your security applications.
  5. An outdated operating system may cause installation issues. Run Windows Update​.
Advanced Troubleshooting
  1. Proxies on your computer may have a significant impact on installing Blizzard games. Disable any active proxy settings.
  2. Ports being blocked on the network, or third party programs, such as security and anti-virus progarms, may prevent the installer from obtaining data. Check your firewall, proxy, port and router configurations.
  3. Try installing in safe mode (Windows XP) (Windows Vista) (Windows 7) (Windows 8​) to resolve any potential issues with Windows or third party processes.
  4. Malicious programs may interfere with the installation process. Run a security scan to find and resolve any infections.
  5. Try adjusting some of your network card options to resolve any network related issues.

Mac

Note: Due to certain changes in the Mac operating system, StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War will not run on Mac OS X 10.7 and later.

  1. Make sure to use the Archive Utility, not a third party tool, to extract the installer.
  2. The installer needs administrator permission to update the files on your computer. Be sure to use an administrator account.
  3. If you experience connectivity issues, try optimizing your internet connection.
  4. Programs running in the background on your computer can interfere with installation. Close any running background applications and try again.
  5. You may have issues installing the game if your disk permissions are not correct. Try repairing your disk permissions.
Advanced Troubleshooting
  1. User account permissions conflicts may cause issues with the installer. Try creating a new administrator account to install the game.
  2. Some OS and third party application processes may interfere with installation. Try installing in safe mode.
