Hunter Pets
In modern WoW, you can change a hunter pet's name using these steps:

Summon the pet

Right click on the pet frame in the user interface

Choose Rename
You can use this option freely in modern WoW. There is no cooldown.
In Classic Era and Classic Progression, you can change your pet's name from the generic name (for instance, "Cat") to one you choose. You cannot change the pet's name again after making that initial change.
Warlock Minions
In modern World of Warcraft, you can rename your Warlock pet for 50 gold at your demon trainer NPC. This will randomly generate a new name and the service can be used multiple times. There is no way to give your demon a custom name.
In Classic Era and Wrath of the Lich King Classic, it is currently not possible to rename your demon.
Mage Elementals
We are aware of a possible issue if your elemental's name is in a different language than the one set on your client.
Currently, we do not have a workaround or resolution that can be provided. We apologize for any inconvenience while our developers work as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.
