Resolution:

The Blizzard Update Agent could not read a necessary file in order to run or update the game. This happens when a necessary file is corrupted or locked down by another program. Follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Windows

  1. Run the Battle.net repair tool to repair any damaged game files.
  2. Delete the Battle.net Tools folder to automatically rebuild outdated or corrupt files.
  3. Disable or temporarily uninstall any security programs, which may mistakenly identify the login module as a security threat.
  4. Run the game in Administrator Mode to address many installation, patching, networking, and start-up errors.
  5. Try closing background applications to resolve any software conflicts.
  6. Run ScanDisk and defragment your hard drive to try to repair any bad sectors.
Note: Do not defragment a Solid State Drive (SSD).

Mac

  1. Run the Battle.net repair tool to repair any damaged game files.
  2. Delete the Battle.net Tools folder to automatically rebuild outdated or corrupt files.
  3. Reset Folder and File Permissions to make sure there is no conflict between the latest OS update and your permissions.
  4. Run the game in Administrator Mode to address many installation, patching, networking, and start-up errors.
  5. Try closing background applications to resolve any software conflicts.
  6. Repair Disk Permissions to resolve any permission conflicts with logon modules.
