This error occurs when the Blizzard Launcher cannot write patch files to your hard drive. This can happen when the launcher doesn’t have permission to write files or when there’s a problem with your hard drive. Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Windows

  1. Make sure you have enough space on your hard drive for the game you’re trying to install (World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III).
  2. There may be a hard drive issue preventing the file from being written. Check your disk and defragment your hard drive to try repairing any bad sectors.
Advanced Troubleshooting
  1. Ensure that Windows' Secondary Logon is enabled, which Agent requires to run correctly.
  2. Security software may interfere with the Battle.net Update Agent and prevent it from running properly. Disable or temporarily uninstall any security programs.
  3. Our games require administrator privileges to install, update, and run properly. Try to run the game on another User Account in Windows.

Mac

  1. Make sure you have enough space on your hard drive for the game you’re trying to install (World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III).
  2. Try creating a new administrator account to resolve permissions issues.
  3. There may be a hard drive issue preventing the file from being written. Run the Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk utilities to try repairing any bad sectors.
  4. Programs running in the background can interfere with the game. Close any running background applications.
Advanced Troubleshooting
  1. Broken permissions in the Application Support folder may prevent installation or startup. Repair Battle.net Application Support permissions.
  2. A missing or improperly configured Shared folder may prevent data from being saved properly. Repair Shared folder permissions
  3. Run the Apple Hardware Test to ensure that there are no physical problems with your hard drive.
