To check your World of Warcraft game client region, you need to look at the following three locations. If the region and language is set incorrectly in any of these three places, you need to reinstall the correct regional game client.

Check the Data Folder

  1. Navigate to your World of Warcraft folder.
  2. Open the Data folder.
  3. There should be a folder with a name that matches your region and language according to the table to the right.
  4. If this folder is named for a different language or region, you have the wrong game client installed.

Check the WTF Folder

  1. Navigate to your World of Warcraft folder.
  2. Open the WTF folder.
  3. Right-click config.wtf and open it with Notepad (Mac: TextEdit).
  4. Check the file for the following three parameters. The text should match your region and language according to the table to the right.
    • SET locale
    • SET portal
    • SET installLocale
  5. If your config.wtf file does not contain the correct region and language information, you have the wrong game client installed.

Check launcher.db

  1. Navigate to your World of Warcraft folder.
  2. Right-click launcher.db and open it with Notepad (Mac: TextEdit).
  3. Check the contents of the file. The text should match your region and language according to the table to the right.
  4. If your launcher.db file does not contain the correct region and language information, you have the wrong game client installed.

Getting the Correct Game Client

If you have the incorrect game client for your region and language, you can get the correct one through Battle.net.

  1. Uninstall the game.
  2. Download and install the game client for the correct region. You can download the correct game client from your Battle.net Account Management Game Downloads page.
