Configuring Power Management and Screen Saver Settings

During technical troubleshooting, it is sometimes necessary to adjust power management and screen saver settings. 

Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8

Screensaver

  1. Click Start (Windows Key + Q in Windows 8), then select Control Panel.
  2. Click Appearance and Personalization.
  3. Under Personalization, click Change Screen Saver.
  4. In the Screen Saver dropdown, click None.
  5. Click Apply.

Power Managament

  1. Click Start (Windows Key + Q in Windows 8), then select Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security.
  3. Select Power Options.

Windows XP

Screensaver

  1. Click Start, then select Control Panel.
  2. Switch to Classic View by clicking on the option on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. Double-click Display, then select the Screen Saver tab.
  4. In the Screen Saver dropdown, click None.
  5. Click Apply.

Power Management

  1. Click Start, then select Control Panel.
  2. Switch to Classic View by clicking on the option on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. Click the Power button to access the system power settings.

Different systems have different settings available in the Power Management section of the computer. We suggest choosing settings that disable these options, such as Never or Always On, but you may have to test different ones.

Note: If you have a laptop, disabling these settings may drastically reduce your battery life.
