Running System File Checker

Missing system files may cause issues with Blizzard games. Run the System File Checker to scan for damaged or missing files in Windows.

Note: This command may require access to the Windows installation source files.

Windows 10

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type cmd.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  4. Use the following command in the Command Prompt:
    sfc /scannow
  5. Hit Enter.
  6. Follow the prompts to check the integrity of your files.

Windows 8

  1. Press Windows Key + Q.
  2. In the Search bar, type cmd but do not press Enter.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Use the following command in the Command Prompt:
    sfc /scannow
  6. Hit Enter.
  7. Follow the prompts to check the integrity of your files.

Windows Vista/Windows 7

  1. Click Start and select All Programs.
  2. Under Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, then click Run as administrator.
  3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password or click Allow.
  4. Use the following command in the Command Prompt:
    sfc /scannow
  5. Follow the prompts to check the integrity of your files.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start.
  2. Select Run.
  3. Use the following command in the Command Prompt:
    sfc /scannow
  4. Follow the prompts to check the integrity of your files.
