If your StarCraft® II interface language has changed or you receive the error, “an authorized language pack is required,” follow the steps below to return your game client’s language settings to the default.

1. Locate the variables.txt file on your system. Follow the steps for your operating system:

Windows 10

  • Click Start.
  • Type documents and press Enter.
  • Open the StarCraft II folder.
  • Open variables.txt.

Windows 8

  • Hold Windows Key + Q.
  • Type documents and press Enter.
  • Open the StarCraft II folder.
  • Open variables.txt.

Windows 7 or Windows Vista

  • Click Start.
  • Click Documents and open the StarCraft II folder.
  • Open variables.txt.

Windows XP

  • Click Start.
  • Click My Documents and open the StarCraft II folder.
  • Open variables.txt.

Mac®

  • Open Finder.
  • Hold down the Option (Alt) key and select Library from the Go menu.
  • Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Blizzard/StarCraft II.
  • Open variables.txt.

2. Find the following lines of text:

localeidassets=enUS
localeiddata=enUS

Change enUS to match your game's regional language name, then save the file.

Note: If you have two StarCraft II accounts on your Battle.net account, you must switch the language setting in this file each time you want to swap to a different game account.
