Voice chat lets you talk to your friends through the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app. Setting up a chat session is easy, and you can use it while playing any Blizzard game.
Setup is as easy as plugging in a microphone and clicking the button on the top right corner of a chat session. You can also change settings by clicking the Blizzard icon on the top left of the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app, selecting Settings from the dropdown, and clicking the Voice Chat option on the left.
- Input Device lets you select which connected microphone you want to use. There is a volume slider to adjust the volume of your voice while chatting.
- The Transmission Mode selector lets you choose from Open Mic or Push to Talk modes. You can also change the key used for Push to Talk from this menu.
Note: Open Mic mode will transmit all sound coming through your microphone, and is selected by default.
- Output Device lets you choose which speakers or headset the voice chat will come from. There is a volume slider to adjust the volume of incoming voice chat.
You can create chat channels by clicking the Create a Channel button on your friends list.
- Chat channels can support any number of users.
- You can mute or change the volume of each user individually.
- You can join multiple chat channels, but you can use voice chat in only one at a time.
- Make sure your microphone or headset is plugged in.
- If you have Parental Controls enabled, make sure voice chat hasn't been disabled.
- If your microphone or headset has a mute switch, make sure it's unmuted.
- Make sure you have the correct microphone selected under Input Device in the Settings menu.
- Make sure your Default Device is set up correctly in Windows by right-clicking the speaker icon in the system tray, and selecting Recording Devices.
Update your drivers and operating system to resolve any compatibility issues.
Run the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app in Administrator Mode to address many installation, patching, networking, and start-up errors.
Check your network configuration to find any issues with your firewall, router, or port settings.
Try closing background applications to resolve any software conflicts.
- Make sure Exclusive Mode is disabled:
- Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select Recording Devices.
- Select your device and click Properties.
- Select the Advanced Tab.
- Uncheck any boxes in the Exclusive Mode section.
